The fact that any discussion on this is immediately shut down just exacerbates the whole thing.

The discussion that was shut down was about content being moved from the Snug to the Off-the Record forum this was done (As @Angie explained at the time) to take it out of the view of guests and search engine bots as it didn't make great reading and did the forum no favours.
(i really don't think we need to go round those circles again here)

Back to the title topic -

I understand that this is a business that has to make money, but presumably it is making money otherwise it wouldn't still be here, and maybe the disenfranchisement of the members, ie the ones who create the content and give the business its value, is a little unwarranted.

If you pay to support the site i think its only fair you have the opportunity to block adverts in your profile settings.

Here is the information about supporting membership taken from the page where you sign up as you can see the importance of the much needed funds is discussed and also as it says advertising is limited, when you visit some sites you struggle to read the content due to the amount of adverts they have on each page, i know people don't like adverts but i don't think ours are intrusive.

Here at The Homebrew Forum we strive to provide a friendly and technical oriented community with limited advertising that works towards our hobby and passion. The The Homebrew Forum Supporting Membership program provides the much needed funds to cover all the expenses it takes to keep this great website running. We rely on this program to keep the lights running and highly appreciate your support!

I also get these gross ads on how to remove ear wax.

As has been said many times you do not need to see adverts, if you choose not to use the advice given here to block them why moan when you see something you do not like?

I actually bought the bike that's been flashing at the top of my screen for the last few weeks last week 🤣🤣
Hope the forum got a cut💸💸

I've currently got one for these weird hooded tops that have a opening that runs from the left shoulder to the right hip and look like they are made from dryer lint. Not sure anyone would ever buy one, but like someone said, someone has to or else they wouldn't advertise them.

Now it's Bellway homes ad, for flats near Hayes Station. Which is fortunate... As I live in Cheshire.

Next, it's an ad for a McClaren 765lt, these targeted ads think too highly of me.

Now, it's Ruthin Boarding School, established in 1284 don't you know.

And as usual the point was completely missed or ignored.

Well i thought my explanation was spot on maybe its you that is missing the point!

No one else has added to the points you have made which is unusual in a thread in the Snug.

You ignored the whole point of my post (the first paragraph) and instead answered a question that I didn't ask, you'd make a good politician Chippy.

I don't have the ads on. Ive seen them though....when I have a look at the forum on my work computer and they mostly seem to be about clothes...that young, trendy people would wear...so no good for me. If I did look at ads I think if they were brewing related I wouldn't mind too much.

@strange-steve Would you either point me to your post, or ask the question again?

Everyone does know that if logged in you do not need to see ANY advertisements? Just go to preferences and turn them off.

And the google adsense ads can adapt to you. You can also block certain types by going to the little x with the arrow and customize what you see and can block some categories.

If you click on the little arrow it will let you give feedback on that ads and not see it again.

Also, here is where you can make your settings.

I haven't checked lately but I think only supporting members have that option now.

No, all members can opt out of ads. It is a feature for Supporting Members also. I'll see about amending that Supporting Member list.

I also get these gross ads on how to remove ear wax.

Do you have any ear wax, or have you looked at any ear wax related sites recently? I'm sorry, but ear wax just seems so funny. I see those ads on Facebook and I've not been looking at ear wax either.

Everyone. If you have questions about the ads, and such please make sure to put a notice in it with my name so I will see it. I know more of the background setting and such, so I really want to talk with you on these things if there are questions. I'm very sorry I didn't see this thread sooner.
