Had to do some work today, but when I got home I knocked together a Muntons Yorkshire Bitter 1.8kg kit + 400gm Medium DME + Safale 04. Gravity is going to be about 1.032, so trying for a session beer. Was actually trying for 333 grams of DME but messed up. I've made this kit with 500 of wheat DME and it came out well and the theory is that you can use a bit less medium DME because of additional maltiness. We will see. Currently in the beer fridge sitting at 18c*

*The beer is in the beer fridge, not me!

All done. Just over 1.054 so around 2 points over target.

My second attempt at this...

The first one turned out terribly, but then I did only use one can, 1kg table sugar and Kveik Voss (first time I ever used Voss, in hindsight, not a fan).

This time around I did two cans, 500g DME and CML cask ale yeast. Hopefully it's going to turn out well this time!

Brewed a Rye IPA yesterday. I love rye in beer, but I always have problems brewing with rye. I used rice hulls this time to make wort collection easier, which it was. Then I boiled too hard and wasn't watching it until I smelled some burning. I stopped the boil with 20 minutes left, and drained the wort from the kettle and both heating elements were almost totally scorched. I then continue the boiling (using multiple pots) on the hob. Added my late addition hops to one of the pots, and after everything was chilled combined it in the FV.

20.5 litres to the FV at 1.071 OG.
IBU =F 👃(tenseth)
6.0 kg Simpsons Finest Pale Ale Maris Otter Malt
1 kg Simpsons Malted Rye
0.5 kg Simpsons Red Rye Crystal Malt
300 g Rice Hulls
100g Idaho 7 Hops
US-05

Here's a picture of the elements after soaking overnight. Could be worse!
