Bit after the fact this post - but yesterday I was at the Pipes Brewery halloween bash in Cardiff with the family. Had a very nice smoked lager, a rather strange pumkin ale and a `farmhouse saison'.

I've had a couple of bottles of home brew - both very bitter, one as clear as that saison, the other murky, frothed up and dragged up the yeast, but very tasty nonetheless, both bottles, Hop City. :thumb:

I have to say, apart from a couple of bottles from a very local brewer, I haven't bought commercial beer for ages. I've lost the taste for it. I used to snatch up Badger beers whenever I saw them, TT Landlord was a must, and every now and again, I would go all Germany Wheaty mad. Since I started brewing again (but AG, not kits - please don't tie me to a post and burn me!) I haven't enjoyed my usual selection anywhere near as much. Maybe it's subliminal - I have realised in my subconscious how much I have spent on nice beer when, let's face it, I can make nice beer for maybe 1/6th of the price...

And saisons don't tend to be clear do they? :-D

According to BJCP, clarity 'can be poor to good'. Guess mine would fall in the good end! I suspect it had something to do with a longer than usual period in the fv (4 weeks instead of my usual 2) and really hungry yeast....

I'm drinking a Black Rock Whispering Wheat and a Wilko light pilsner. I've overdone the extra fermentables on both of them and they're a right pair of growlers at 7%+ each. I'm having to have a lemonade top on them and they've got a kick like a mule. The only saving grace is a bottle of my Wilko Hoppy Copper which is a nice civilized 5.8% and gorgeous. May God have mercy on my soul in the morning.

Shop bought ales as i am still waiting for my first batch to brew

Schnieder & Sohn Aventinus.

750ml bottle of Brigand

finishing off with a meantime chocolate porter.

Decided to give my own stocks a break :-)

After recovering from the worst case of man flu' I can ever recall I thought it was only fitting to treat myself :drink:

I'm having a "bought" night too. Trying out a few I fancied or heard good things about. It's a nice change now and again and now I'm doing okay for bottles I can bare to buy beer that isn't in a brown pint bottle.

Besides it'll all add to the conditioning time of the home made which never hurts.
