...Iainm. ..rockin up to work ...******! Sounds like the Polish agency workers bus...

Nah not working tonight, just meeting for dinner and socialising at a hotel. Work starts tomorrow. Had a bit of time in London first, so I walked 'em off with a winding two hour stroll from Kings X to Paddington, to rubberneck at the cosmetically altered of Harley Street, and the shisha joints near Edgeware Road. I grabbed a Yeastie Boys Gunnamatta Earl Grey IPA at the pub in the station. Very nice it was too. Then took the train to the Cotswolds, with an M&S Double Hopped Citra IPA for the journey. It was ok, but I suspect the accountants had the final say on the hops bill. Dinner was good, but all the hotel stocks is Hobgoblin and bland lager, so I passed on that. Its a quiet night, so I've retired to the room to try the Uiltje Oatmeal Stout. Very very nice. You would never guess its 10%! Next up is the M&S Battersea Rye.

My disastrous breakfast stout which unfortunately doesn't taste anywhere near as good as it looks. Terrible brew, but I'm loath to pour any beer away :|

Looks good enough, what's wrong with it?

Tbh I'm not really sure what's wrong with it. There is an unusual and unpleasant sort of metallic and almost savoury flavour to it  which is particularly bad when first poured but seems to dissipate a bit after about 10 mins in the glass. I know, weird. I don't know if it's from the coffee, the chocolate or something else.

That's interesting....savoury..? Maybe you mistook the coffee for gravy granuales

Did you use actual chocolate? If so, how much? I'm curious because I want to make a choc stout myself this spring. Hoping to replicate Youngs Double Chocolate Stout

 I think gravy would have been nicer!
I used 100g of cocoa powder and 6% chocolate malt in it but there isn't really much chocolate flavour in it. Also don't take my advice cos this is probably my worst ever beer

Some Lone Wolf Gin

Followed by some Vino Tinto. Then a Tropic Thunder then a friends home brew.

Asked the misses to pick me up a couple of beers of her choice when she popped into town this afternoon and she didn't let me down!

Tonight I have been mostly drinking:
Burning Sky, Saison à la Provision - beautiful modern Saison nom nom nom.
Weird Beard, Little Things That Kill - not bad, but a lowish abv beer with lots of bittering hops. Very quaffable, but not remarkable.
Siren Craft, Agua de Sapo - A "brown ale" with ginger, lemon and demerera sugar, inspired by a Costa Rican drink made with those ingredients. Nice, easy-drinking, but more of an IPA than a brown ale.
Cloudwater, Sorachi Grisette - I've never tried a grisette before. Its a low abv beer with wheat and Belgian yeast, which went out of style after WWII. This one has hops in it that didn't exist until 1984... and they're Japanese. Whatever. It tastes pretty good.

Otherwise I've had one of my slightly disappointing Hefeweizens, and one of my definitely-not-disappointing BIPA version 2. Stocks are running low on that one, so I guess that version 3 will be on the cards for my next grain order.

Tucking into a few cwtch bottles I've had conditioned for a while now (unintentionally I might add) and it still has that hop hit but it seems to just get better and better for me.

I picked these up from

I stay in the holiday inn express (colliers wood)when in london on business and a brisk walk up the road later and i'm in heaven!

time to make a dent in them

p.s. the mongozo is for mrs DOJ

Love that shop. I live two tube stops away and frequently make the trek. It only opens in the evenings and the owner is a really nice guy who's really willing to talk beer! Great selection too.

Tonight, I'm on a dry stout and the very first bottle of Sarah Hughes Ruby Ale.

Lovely beers.

Just had a bottle of Tiny Rebel Stay Puft, lovely smokey oatmeal stout. Not as good out of a bottle but still a nice drop.
More of a smoke milk stout to me. Took me back to the last time I had this, last April. Not many beers bring back memories like this did.

A right old mix. A pint of my equinox/mosaic/cascade pale, followed by a Brett saison, followed by one of my Jan porter entries, followed by a eldorado/rakau IPA, followed by a smog rocket [emoji1303]
