Just pulled out the cheese and biscuits etc. A nice bottle of Belgian single from @dave_77 To wash them down.

I sadly had a gas escape last week. Even worse, it was a brand new NEIPA that I'd just brewed.
As I suspected, it's now got an oxidised taste. 😒

I know I did nothing else wrong, because I fermented under pressure and did a closed transfer.

Not the worst, but it tastes like it had wonderful promise. Sadly, it's got that aftertaste.

Have you tried it with custard or do you prefer whipped cream?

Only joking @Druss , I know nothing of such matters. I'm sure it's lovely. And I'm one to talk as you shall see.

In the meantime, I have reached the stage where my palate is completely jaded and so I bought some lager for a couple of lagers and lime. I was surprised to find that Kronenbourg 1664, while far from excellent, was surprisingly acceptable and I drank the 2nd half litre without the lime. I remember it being quite ghastly! I note that the beer here is 5.5% abv while the same brand on Tesco online is only 4.6%. What's all that about, then?
Just doing a catchup - thought you would be interested in this,

People also ask

Why is Kronenbourg weaker in the UK?

A spokesman said: "Many beers in the UK are brewed at a lower ABV than those in Europe, based on consumer preference and category norms. "Through our collective brewing expertise, we are able to brew excellent beers with slightly less alcohol to deliver great taste and quality."6 Sept 2024"

He doesn't say that it's brewed in Manchester by Heineken.
Explains a lot really 🤮

A spokesman talks complete bùllshít, then. What do those words actuallly mean? I'll translate "Many beers in the UK are brewed to maximise profits with complete disregard for the drinkers' preferences. We'd prefer to spend money on marketing rather than customer satisfaction, especially as the marketing gurus are our mates while the consumer is a complete twát who'll put up with any old shi'ite!"
There. You didn't know I was fluent in spokesmanese, did you?

Post Xmas catch up.
I regret there wasn't time before - I was too occupied being a busy bar steward.
So it's back to the starters my two beer blended bitter CPDB, followed rapidly by my Kent Gold ale with my Prima Donna hopping.
Some left over red Rioja was next, no photo as we were already sitting up at the table and halfway through a so-tasty home-made Tartiflette.
