Kit started 2nd November 2024.
Added 1.2kg Mangrove Jacks Liquid Malt Extract, Pure Brew, and then made up to 21L with Tesco Ashbeck mineral water.
Fermented in brew fridge at 20°C.
Kit hops added on 11th November.
Bottled on 14th November, with one sugar stick per 500ml bottle and put into brew fridge at 20°C.
Moved out to shed on 16th December.
First pint - Christmas Day 2024
I've never really shown much interest in the Muntons Tap Room series of kits. They just always looked a bit 'cheap and nasty' to me, but I then saw the Partridge Brothers review 'I Am Your Guava' and decided I had to try it. They gave it 10/10.
I think Hazy Jane Guava is my favourite Brewdog beer, so I know I like the guava flavour and was interested to see how this would compare.
I realise when looking at my notes that there's a big gap between bottling on 14th November and moving out of the brew fridge on 16th December. This was for personal reasons, but the brew fridge was switched off a couple of weeks after the beer was bottled and I was at home very little so the house was cold.
No twang at all on the nose, just lots of guava! It's a cracking pint. Best served chilled, it leaves you in no doubt that guava is the star (the flavour is strong) and has a really nice, subtle bitter finish. Apart from the fruit being completely different, it reminds me a bit of Mangrove Jacks Mango Pale Ale in terms of the strength of flavour. It's not subtle, but I think that's all to the good. In truth, this is probably a pint that would be more suited to summer, but it's a really good, well-rounded beer and can only be marked as a 10/10. Is it as good as Hazy Jane? Well maybe not quite (and it's not hazy!), though I'd have to think hard about it, but when you look at the price of the Brewdog beer, I'm perfectly happy with this!
