Kit started 26th September 2024.
Added 1kg Dark Rock Pale Ale Beer Kit Enhancer, Pure Brew, and then made up to 23L with Tesco Ashbeck mineral water.
Fermented in brew fridge at 20°C.
Kit hops added on 9th October.
Bottled on 12th October, with one sugar stick per 500ml bottle and put into brew fridge at 20°C.
Moved out to shed on 27th October.
First pint - 27th December 2024
I realise there's a two month gap between bottling and tasting, but I've had a lot going on personally just lately.
I'm slowly working my way through the Dark Rock Session Series and this was one I really wanted to try. All my brews are now done in one vessel (with a tap), which is left to settle before bottling via a Little Bottler wand. Other than opening the lid to throw the hops in, there's very little chance of any oxidation, which I'm convinced is a major factor in the 'twang'.
There was no hint of twang when I poured the first pint and the first mouhthful was a joy. I'd had the bottle in the fridge for a couple of days, so it was nicely chilled which suits this style of beer. Lovely clean, refreshing taste with a subtle hop flavour followed by a slight bitterness. The last Dark Rock kit I did was the Hoppy Days IPA and I think this surpasses that, or maybe it's just more to my personal taste. So easy to drink and a really well-rounded beer. Serve it to me in a pub, and I'd happily drink it all night. 10/10.
