I done that and the st peters honey porter before trying AG. I agree with you the cream stout wasn't half bad, however I would warn against any thoughts of trying the honey porter. It had a really, really overpowering "honey" aroma and taste šŸ¤®šŸ¤®
Shame I have have had a few commercial honey porters that have being very pleasant (and some pretty dire ones as well sadly). Iā€™ve also used honey in a red ale (the CML all grain kit) and while it worked well the flavour of the honey came through quite strongly and I have noticed that different honeys give a quite different taste, so while I believe it has a place in brewing I think it really does need to be handled with care.

Nice pint of empire.

An attempt at a 'Light Ale' brewed and bottled Feb. 2021.
A tad too much light crystal, but none the worse for that.
Hardly any head, but there is 'condition'
@Donegal john !
The yeast was cultured-up Proper Job.
Thatā€™s a good looking pint sir. I agree never too much crystal until there is too much šŸ¤¦ā€ā™‚ļø
It resembles this pint of ā€œsee what happensā€ ipa I did 6/7 months ago where I poured the wort of an ipa onto the turb of an English bitter. It was a vile thing up until a few weeks ago. Not itā€™s a thing of beauty. 7.5% and slightly dry finish but quaffable.

Tesco was a bit light with stock today. First time trying this. It's just ok

Whitewater are generally fairly reliable, and Maggies Leap is a showstopper. I think theyā€˜ve landed in a good sweet spot between satisfying popular appeal and making proper tasting beer.
And we always have Farmeggedon to fall back on who launched with a 70+ IBU IPA and followed it up with a DIPA within a year. I donā€™t think theā€™ve made a beer I donā€™t like since.

The only whitewater beer I have found to be anyway tasty is the hopplehammer but they all have the same ā€œtasteā€ I canā€™t put my finger on it but I think itā€™s the cheaper hops for bittering they use , same as northbound

I suppose the question is how much it cost I donā€™t mind mediocre from an 89p bottle of Banks Bitter (or a 40p beer made from a one can kit) but am much less tolerant when the beer costs Ā£2-Ā£3 or more and is still mediocre.

I havenā€™t had Hopplehammer, but my local offie sells it. Must give it a go. Can you get your hands on any Farmeggedon beers west of the Bann (or even west of the Foyle estuary)?

Iā€™ve had a few in the past that as far as I remember werenā€™t too bad. Not a brewery I would go looking for to be honest. No idea why though. I guess beers didnā€™t stand out or the price was inflated šŸ¤·ā€ā™‚ļø

It's hard to look past kinnegar, The white Hag or 8 degrees north. Always top quality
Recently I have been enjoying lacada beers from Portrush

Yes, Iā€™d agree on price point point. Great beers, but knocking on the door of Ā£3 a bottle. One of the reasons I decided to get better at making my own.
Case in point, Iā€™m now having the last Weizenbock, way better than anything the local offie has to offer and, now Iā€™m getting the hang of how to brew what I like to drink, nowhere near as nice as the next version of it Iā€™m going to do.

I loved the lacada beers but havenā€™t had any for a while. They were a regular a north coast food markets pre lockdown but havenā€™t seen any since. Iā€™ll go on the hunt next weekend when Iā€™m back up.

This is probably the best of the range I have tried

I like supporting local but I am not keen on northbound or rough brothers beers. It's a cut throat market to get into.
