Brewing a Belgian pale tonight hopped with Adeena & Idaho Gem. Dry Yeast experiment on this batch 50/50 t-58 & CML Norsk.

The name is interesting. Almost suggesting it’s got CaraVienna in it. I want to try that but I can’t get it anywhere.

My eldest daughter gave me a Beer52 box and it was in that box. Maybe Beer52 sell it? I’m not sure if they sell beers outside of a subscription.

This is nice. Not especially strong on aroma but the flavour is good without being a hop monster - nice tropical fruity flavours. Bitterness is there but quite soft.

Ah I meant the CaraVienna malt I’d like to try, not the beer. I don’t like beer 52, used to subscribe but thought it wasn’t worth the price for the quality of the stuff. And you can’t pick them yourself either. Boo lol

Ah, understood! I’ve never subscribed but my eldest daughter does and then gives me the odd box. There are occasionally some really nice beers but mostly they are a bit “samey”.

Honest Brew have much nicer beers - however I’ve renamed them ‘Dishonest Brew’ as when I tried to cancel it they repeatedly kept taking the payments.

In the end I went on the website and swapped bank accounts to one with no money in so they couldn’t take any more

This is also nice, a mild from the same Beer52 box. It’s very malty with a honeycomb toffee vibe.

I've got a cold, not the Rona (which I had mid Jan) but a good old fashioned winter cold. Remember them?

Anyhow, extensive research suggests beer is the best cure, so I'm breaking the 'no drinking on a weekday' rule and having an Old Craft Hen.

I’m getting stuck into the Cream Ale in a big way tonight. Better make sure I leave some for the swap that’s coming up.

This one is an IPA from Thornbridge. If they said on the can that it’s a light refreshing beer I’d have been very happy with it. Instead they describe it as a “Juicy IPA” and say it “exudes huge aromas”. The brewer has done a good job but the marketing is off-tune.

I find Thornbridge beers to be very well made but very subtle in the flavour dept. I don't think you're going to find a Thornbridge beer that will smack you in the face with hops and 'rip your throstle oot' to borrow an expression from one of the Hairy Bikers

I'm hoping to visit the brewery sng tsp room in a couple of weeks. I'm interested to try them on home soil.

I haven't had to do this yet, but something similar is to report the debit card "lost." That cleans the slate, gets rid of the bric-a-bra, though you have to contact the legit places to keep the show on the road.

A brewing example of "just because you can, doesn't mean you should" I had a similar reaction to a Cwitch beer that tasted like jam. Unfortunately, I was in a pub so had very few places to dump it!

In all seriousness, I think I actually left the pub! It was one of those gaffs where the cask choice was a) something blonde and American hopped, b) something blonde and American hopped, c) something blonde and American hopped and d) an ale made to taste like jam.

I wasn't convinced I was their target audience.

difference between an array of American and British hops is?
Hops are different but they can't be that different.
Before you rant, I buy, on average more UK hops because that's what the recipes I make call for.
