BBQ is done and my clothes are fragrant with the awesome smell of Big K Marabou charcoal; subtle earthy aromas, low in smoky notes and zero astringency. Needs a beer that promises similar subtle rich dark qualities.
So no better time to crack open a Munich Dunkle from @samale. Why wasn’t this in LAB mate?!

Carbonation is spot on. It’s very dark, a deep amber that when held up to to the light drops to a dark red and is perfectly clear. Top marks for appearance.
Aroma is bready toasty malts with a good smack of chocolate and dark cherry.
The flavour follows suit, soft deep rich and complex malts and dark chocolate roasty notes are balanced nicely with sweeter dark caramel flavours.
Moderate bitterness levels balance the malty sweetness. The fermentation is clean and the body is light to medium. There’s no real hop character beyond the bittering, which is just how it should be. I’m guessing the recipe has a decent dose of a noble hop that executed its job perfectly then ducked back down under the parapets.

This is a stand out beer and nails everything that an amber lager should be. Hats off, and thank you for sharing it.

Talking of beer, my first of the night is @dave_77 altbeir, and i'm enjoying it very much! Dark copper, very clear, thin head which dissipates pretty quickly (a keg to bottle problem maybe?). Aroma wise, initially quite a strong bready aroma straight pouring, this fades a bit after the head disappears. Flavour, i'm loving it, malty, bitter but not overly so, some hop spiciness, nice complexity. Defo medium mouthfeel. Really enjoying this obviously well made beer, wish I had a pint! 😉

I had one of those last week and i loved it. Malty, bitter and cleanly fermented, and it was also one of the best looking beers in the glass that I’ve poured for a long time.

Cheers 👍
I don't have a lot of experience brewing this type of beer. After drinking your hell's and making the Dunkel I am starting to enjoy the style.

👍🏼 Forgot you had this one. Head retention is pretty good out of the keg, I think it's the way a bottle to avoid oxidation. Think the keg is on its last legs but will be brewing another batch, I like the malty/bitter combo of the style. Glad you enjoyed🍺
