After trying three pubs in Aberfoyle for real ale (in response to my question “what real ales do you have on” I was offered a craft lager in one of them) had a rather arduous cycle ride to a community pub in a small village by which time I was ready to drink anything . A pint of McEwans 70/- filled the beer shaped hole. Warm welcome from the locals was nice.

It is that. I’m still sipping it savouring every drop. A true gem of a beer. The complex flavours hide the abv perfectly.

Well I should probably call this an IPL rather than an Italian pils. It's still good the US tettnang and saaz are much fruitiers than the continentals.

We are in Spark, it is full of different food vendors and independent bars. There is an app so you can order to your table. We’ve decided on ‘Pic Tap’ for a drink. I have a York E and Jim has a full circle IPA.

Always nice to meet a member, especially when they are putting out beers like this. A refreshing pale ale that absolutely epitomises session doesn't have to be bland. Watch out for engine river brew...!

I know some of you liken Abbot to macro lagers, and that's fair enough.

As a former macro lager drinker, I actually quite like Abbot. Maybe it's like a stepping stone beer to real beer.

Anyway, I thought I'd try the Abbot Reserve. It's even better than the standard Abbot. Rich and fruity. Right up my strasse.

Starting with a Belhaven Black which is slipping down very nicely. Found the Scottish Real Ale shop near Callander this morning......they say they have over 200 Scottish beers and ciders. Had to exercise some self restraint but not too much !
