First beers since Sunday and they taste good!

Wye Valley HPA to start and now first look at my EKG golden ale. I am OK with this. It was meant to be an easy going 4.5% quaffer with some hoppy character. More like 5% and you can feel that but pleased with the lacing (Torrified Wheat win?) and there's a good bitterness. Maybe some more aroma hops or a dry hop next time.

OK, Saaz pale ale first.
As I thought the other evening, before anything else it would have been fine.
Just not after anything with a definite hoppy flavour, when it becomes extremely "Meh" !

It's that tasty and clear AG Citra again which was done with a 35 year old Electrim bin which means I could not possibly justify spending hundreds on fancy equipment! (Probably wouldn't be allowed to....)

Oh my giddy Godmothers!
Brewed in March,
An all pale malt with EKG'S, Fuggles, finish wth Cascade.
Then dry hopped with EKGs and Cascade.
It was a gusher in August, now that it's cold outside it has calmed down on opening.
So clean, with the Cascade evident.
8 months in bottle for a pale ale though to behave and come on-song.
This is a long term hobby!

So SWMBO'D said - "If you think it's that good, where's mine?"
So I decanted it into her 1/2 glass, and poured another.
Because I never know what the next bottle is going to be like.
Fortunately much the same, but didn't pour quite so clear, which I'm OK with.
SWMBO'D is not, so RESULT.

Ok guys I’ve been really looking forward to this! I have here the famous Summer Breeze from our own @Hazelwood Brewery.

Hope you don’t mind H if myself and the husband share it as we share everything that we haven’t had before. Also if I’m way off with anything I apologise - I’m still learning.

We instantly get the apricot aroma from the verdant yeast as we are familiar with this from making the verdant IPA ourselves. Very pleasant!

Didn’t get much of a head but that’s to be expected from the handling of the delivery people, and of course we poured it into two glasses.

I would say it is medium bodied, and flavour wise we get mostly grapefruit, which continues into the lasting bitter finish.

Very well made, and in our eyes traditional IPA, with the required bitterness of such a beverage. Suits our taste buds down to the ground. None of this very modern stuff that you can hardly taste (hope you know what I’m trying to say).

Thank you so much for sharing this H - I can see why it’s your house ale. We loved it!

That post caused some diversion as I only saw part of the name on the glass and could not get away from "vinegar" so did an internet search to find the brewery to then see the name on the bottle!! Perhaps knowing we can resort to the Web reduces the effort of our grey cells!

I know they say the Irish are thick but to call the brewery “vinegar” a step too far even for us I think

Some de Vossen beers, currently on the Quadrupel Stout. A Belgian-inspired brewery in East Anglia. Sadly they are ceasing to brew, the beers are quite excellent and I only wish I'd have discovered them a bit earlier.

Went to the shed to pour a few and nearly got blown over with gale force winds near Ireland’s most northernly point. So quick qc on the Belgian.

Needs more time to clear and carb a bit (it was the first pour)
So on to another ipa I thought was a drain pour. Thank god I didn’t. The slick taste is gone and the hops are shining along with a nice malty backbone. Nice drop.

Absolutely got pineapple and papaya on the nose. A decent fizz to it that gives it a nice bitter bite. Very much appreciated. Thank you

The more I brew the more I realise patience reaps dividends. I have two ageing brews in bottles which were overlooked for weeks for being suspect but which are now really coming into their own and in the case of kits at least double the minimum recommend maturation period!

I don’t think you’re way off at all, grapefruit and bitterness are probably the main features. Maybe a little sweet fruit on the aroma which you are picking up as apricot.

The more I brew the more I realise patience reaps dividends. I have two ageing brews in bottles which were overlooked for weeks for being suspect but which are now really coming into their own and in the case of kits at least double the minimum recommend maturation period!

I have 5 kegs and only (mostly) drink at weekends so patience isn’t that hard really sometimes lol. better When left at least a month. This one needed 2. I’ve another that tasted salty that will also get a month until I need the keg at least.
