A belated birthday drink. Saving my birthday drinks until Saturday when I'm off work ! Dry Stout V2 3 weeks in bottle. The original GH version was excellent and this slightly modified version is just getting better.

These two strong beers slipped down nicely last night. Fullers Golden Pride on the left is a mighty 8.5% ABV, which I would describe as raw alcohol cleverly disguised as beer, and St Austell’s Tribute XXtra at 6.8% ABV, a special beer brewed in memory of their Head Brewer, Roger Ryman.

Roger joined the firm in 1999, the year of the total solar eclipse over the West Country, and his one-off brew ‘Who Put Out The Lights?’ was so popular it became their flagship ‘Tribute’. They do a Christmas version called ‘Tribute Extra’ at 5.2% which is excellent, and I only found out about this supercharged version when contacting the brewery about Rye malt. In for a penny in for a pound, I bought a case of a dozen bottles as I’m currently out of my own beer. asad1

Not had one of these before but someone (unknown) brought one to the family BBQ and left it behind.

Not sure about the smell

Be brave, try it…

I've drunk many of these in the past! Best served ice cold on a hot day with a view of the Aegean within two feet of a plate of Calamari. If any of those elements are missing, I suspect the enjoyment levels drop somewhat!

My most recent Vienna APA. Brewed late June (I think). Some hope fade on the nose but still good. Might not quite hang on for this months competition but will keep an eye on it.
