Is there a secret to brewing a decent bitter, cos I've tried many times with very little success. Actually once I entered a BJCP competition with an ESB and although it didn't place it scored 41 which I couldn't believe. I rebrewed the exact same beer a bit later and entered it into another competition (organised by the same club now) and it scored 15! Neither were great in my opinion but I honestly thought the second was better :laugh8:
There might be a moral there somewhere but I don't know what it is.
Are you sure the first score wasn't 14😀

It might be best for me to reserve comment until after @Hopsteep has scored this months competition!

I’m not aware of any secret, I think it’s a case of finding the right hops and using an appropriate yeast?
 
Grabbed this on the food run. Not good but not bad, way to minerally for my taste. Was curious to try locally grown cascade hops. Unfortunately they seem to be missing. Wished breweries used more hop stands and dry hops, not just one or two boil additions.

Sounds nice, shame it didn’t live up to it’s promise.
 
Tucking into the beers we were gifted by De Vere Windsor on last week's work trip. A couple of the other lads donated their bounty to me. First up this one: pale malt, wheat, target, ekuanot , enigma, mosaic. Tis indeed fruity - somewhere mid Atlantic.

Went to my local specialist offy earlier and got a half dozen selection of Amundsen beers. Heard good things about them. Not sure if I have ever had any of their beers before.
 
Bottle of brew #4 Rye-PA with lots of ekuanot in there. Its hazy (to be polite) but tasty. Stronger than I meant at 6 and a bit % but really enjoyable before a bottle of Rhone with the slow cooked lamb.
