Setting aside service quality the prices seem reasonable, however, considering the very considerable area that a water supply, er!, supplies and how often this comes up in threads surely we should be getting into groups in our areas, testing the water and sharing the costs.

We may after a time end up with a water map of the UK.

Maybe a dedicated thread @Chippy_Tea ?

A few years back a fellow brewer who lives about 6 miles from me got his water tested from Phoenix at the same time as me, both our water comes from the same source, but their were differences in the results. This is why generic water company reports can't be relied on.

The generic water company reports often don't have all the information that brewers need.

Its also very likely that your water supply is blended from a number of different sources. Such as ground water and reservoirs. The blend and sources can change daily and hence why you will always have a median water report based on a rolling 12 months. You can get a test and it will be accurate for that day/week/month but it will most likely change. Hence why i have a Ph meter and measure the raw water everytime brew day to give me an idea of where the water is at. This is also why most breweries get tests done 2 / 4 weekly and usually done for free by their supplier.

However at a HB level do get a test and run with the results becuase at a HB level it will give you more than enough information to produce some pretty good beer if you apply it correctly.

I use Phoenix once a year and there is only ever a very slight difference between reports. I test the alkalinity and calcium before each brew and the only time there is any variation is if we have had a lot of rain.
