It is my first time that I use Safale US-05. I've been transferring wort from primary into secondary fermenter today (it has been in primary for 18 days), and the "foam" on top of the wort was different that I am used to.

Does it look OK to you?

Yep looks like an 05 krausen to me.. 05 krausens can hang around for ages. it will probably break up and drop out soon looking at that

Had the same concern with this yeast in the last couple of weeks. For about 15 days it sat on the top of the wort and I thought that the beer had an infection, but then it fell through the beer and I ended up with lovely clear beer. I am not going to waste my time worrying about what yeasts do until at least three weeks!

Quick newbie question, 05 is US and 04 in English?? What different flavors do you get? I have only used 05 so far.

05 is clean fermenting leaving very little yeast character and mostly malt or hop flavour. 04 leaves a little more residual sweetness as well as providing its own flavour contribution with distinct esters typical of English ales. 04 is also more flocculent meaning it drops out of suspension sooner and leaves a more compacted yeast cake in the fermenter and bottle.
