Unscrewing a Tilt Hydrometer

so I have a small problem, which is that my Tilt hydrometer rolled onto the floor and it looks like something (one of the weights) dislodged



So I wanted to crack it open and see if i could repair it. But despite wearing gloves and employing the strength of 30 men or more, I cannot get the screw cap to turn. Anyone know of a knack to it?

Every video I've seen shows a tilt with two screw ends so can't find instructions with my version

I had to use a pipe wrench on it, put a tea towel between the wrench and the tilt, to stop it scratching

Try floating it in hot water for 15 mins before you try and unscrew it?

It took me a while (and a lot of swearing) to get into mine to change the battery.

Just persist at it and it will budge.

I was trying for 15mins - I'll give it another go. How did you grip it?

I tried this though maybe I didn't leave it in for long enough...

Heavy duty marigolds and patience, they seem to give the best grip.

I was naughty and used some plumbers water pump pliers and a tea towel. The tea towel now has a small hole but the wife hasn’t noticed.

I used a small wrench in the end, as much as I like my tilt opening the cap to change the battery is a complete pain. Just received I didn’t break anything.
