The BBC is losing money as people stop watching live TV and no longer need a licence so the government are stepping in and are going to force streamers to pay for a licence rather than get to the bottom of why people are no loner interested in the stuff the BBC broadcast.

You still need a licence to watch iPlayer on catch-up. Nothing has changed here AFAIK

I go back and forth on this in my own head.

I think it's important that there's funding for TV programming that is free from commercial concerns.

But I also wonder if the TV License is fit for purpose in this day and age.

Agree. The world has changed a lot in the last 20 years with the internet and streaming. This problem has just been ignored up to now. At least they are doing something

As far as I know if you don't watch live TV you don't need a licence I don't know about iplayer

If you use iPlayer or catch up you do need a tv license.

Broadband providors will be the easy way, you know just like they do with the illegal content. Oh wait….

So because it's the BBC you need a licence to watch any BBC content live or streamed, so all the people who have stopped paying their licence because they watch nothing from BBC are going to be forced to get a licence to watch Netflix etc.

Technically if you watch any live content on Netflix, Prime etc you still need a TV license.
