I try not to worry to much about things I have no control over, I don't get all this worry stuff we are leaving the eu we are not leaving Europe I have heard of no one losing their job all the shelfs were full of food this morning in the supermarket I filled my car up for less than it was on the 12th, lets not panick and get in a tiswas my personal view is if Boris wants to stay in power he will have look after all the people who voted for him or he will be out next time round

If you lived along either side of the Irish Border you would not have that luxury.
A hard Brexit would very likely mean a hard border and job losses.

Brexit means you would be leaving the Customs Union, the largest trading bloc in the world.

You have very little understanding of Ireland. Brexit has caused more devision. Peace in Ireland is fragile and was not considered when Brexit was voted on

I'm no expert but perhaps similar to the solutions they currently use to manage differing duty rates, sales type taxes and currencies between the north and south without having a hard border?

I thought I was one of the most optimistic people in the world, but I see I'm not even in the third league. This may be true however, most of the posts on this forum surrounding the Brexit issue seem woefully ignorant of Ireland, North or South.

I wouldn't feel bad though, your politicians are equally ignorant.

There have been a number of solutions proposed to avoid a hard border, and still allow for different customs territories. There has, of course, been lots of nay saying and **** waving while nobody knew what was going on, as you would expect during a negotiation, but now everyone knows what's happening (the UK is leaving) I suspect some of the technical solutions already proposed by both parties will be developed and deployed.

We pay higher taxes in Scotland.
Also the frozen council tax has contributed a fair bit to cuts in services.

As you know, the Good Friday Agreement requires cross border cooperation, and this is generally regarded as making a hard boarder between the two countries impossible. However, a soft border allowing for technology based checks away from the actual border itself, whilst still allowing for different customs territories, as is used on other sensitive borders in the world could well be a solution.

What happens if my farm/house stradles the border????

What if I live in the south and my job is in the North????

What if I have a Road haulage company in Donegal and have to make deliveries to Dublin? (google map Donegal)

Between two jurisdictions that may in the future have different standards regarding food????

This has been described by unenforceable by the Irish Government.

Have you ever driven across the Irish border?
Ever been to Newry, Crossmaglen, Derry, Sligo, Donegal, etc

How would you enforce this just using technology???????

The British army had a hard time stopping yahoo's with guns crossing the border.

The principal of soft boarder technology based checks has worked elsewhere with exactly the same issues to overcome. There papers on how this has been achieved on the web- Fujitsu are pretty hot on the technology. Obviously, many of the statements made by politicians during the '**** waving' stage painted a picture of doom and gloom, but I suspect pragmatism will win out in the end. Obviously, the technology is agnostic, so it doesn't matter if the soft boarder is a North /South one or in the Irish sea, it functions on the same principles.

There are differing fuel duty rates presently on the island; indeed there are different duty rates on things in England and Scotland and no border whatsoever. It all works, given the will.
