Has anyone been using one of these? if so I would be interested in feedback as i am considering buying one. i understand that you can make your own but i wont be going down that route myself so am just trying to get some feedback from those who have used them. Any feedback most apreciated,

cheers for that link . it seems like there is an issue with Gravity readings being affected by krausen etc, so maybe best to wait and see if they bring a new version out that has resolved that.

I still take a reading via a hydrometer at the end, but use the tilt to determine when to ramp up the temperature or cold crash.

I started fermenting on Thursday, had reached final gravity by Monday, so it's now going to be warmed for a few days before cold crashing, as per the Brulosophy approach. Would be much more effort taking manual readings.

That makes sense.

With my current process however i tend to leave it , and not touch it for two weeks anyway, dry hop for 3 days then Keg, so not sure it would help in that regard.

i liked the idea of being able to chart and compare the various fermentations with solid data, so you can play around and vary your process's and yeasts etc and take conclusions from that! - as it is, i am not sure i could rely on the measurement figures, at least going by that other thread.

Has anyone got the V2 Tilt? seen that it came out a couple months ago. Improved sensors/Reading & battery life. Didnt like the sound of some of the flaky comments regarding when the Tilt got krausen on it or hops. If the V2 Tilt is better? than I may get one, I'd probably still do manual readings before pitch and before kegging but it would help in between as I've always had thoughts of 'what is my brew actually doing' say during the day or at night when the temperature may fluctuate/or your not around to gaze longingly into the airlock.

Didnt know there was a V2. Sounds good- hopefully we might get some feedback here then?

I have the V2 (I think) and still have issues with gravity being affected by krausen, but I'm used to it so can adjust for it. I always take a refractometer reading at the end of fermentation anyway.

For most of the fermentation though it is accurate and you'll have a good idea of how your brew is progressing without having to actually take a wet reading.

With my v1 i've never had the krausen issue that some seen to experience, I get a tiny blip as fermentation kicks off and the reading can change slightly if crash cooling at the end of fermentation but it is fairly irrelevant anyway as fermentation has finished and this reading corrects itself after temperature stabilises.
I use a finishing hydrometer and the Tilt has never been more than one point out for me.

Mine seems to get stuck the temp never changes even at night and the abv don't change much either

what is this new Product ...were can i find out it.

brewing a Porter at mo og 1.060 fg 1.014.

look on eBay, Amazon or go to https://tilthydrometer.com/

When it's covered in foam or krausen it can lose some accuracy but it does show a trend. I love mine. It proves that a kit will ferment for at least two weeks if you are patient. I take mine out near the end and clean it then put it back. But if you take OG and FG the old-fashioned way as well, there's no point. I paid £99 for mine and will buy more if I see them on eBay.

With a RaspberryPi computer which costs about £10, you don't need to tie up a phone 24/7. PM me if you want more advice.

There's one on eBay now; current bid is £60.

Hi mate it seems weird how the temp can stay the same for such a long period with it measuring to the point in temperature I would have expected some fluctuation. I cleaned it and dropped it back in but it still seems to give same reading . It's been nearly a week and it's only moved from 1.050 to 1.042 is this right or am I being impatient

Perhaps you forgot to take it out of its case? Please post a photo. All you have to do to be sure it's working is to put it in a bowl of cold water then a bowl of warm water!

Cheers it's out the tube which I believe is a common mistake I'll try that with the water.it seems to be stuck on 22.8 all the time

End of my tether with it now took it out cleaned it totally different readings in temp and abv now.

Didnt know there was a V2. …
It's actually V3 just now. Only one cap on the case, minor changes to the circuit board, etc. They are not changes that should make V1 owners throw theirs in the bin so they can buy a new one!

Conclusions I've reached so far: They are affected by CO2 evolving from the fermentation, but only briefly. As long as you are aware of it when fermentation is strong it isn't a problem. Apparently they are working on ironing out the "noise" from fermentation. It'll just be a software upgrade. The biggest problem I've had is the effect of yeast crop dulling responsiveness and making them over-read and "stick". How much I guess is down to which yeast (I've been using WLP028 Edinburgh Ale which seems particularly bad with about 4 points of gravity misread). Again, knowing it can happen is half the solution.

While I sit here typing this I can see the gravity of the currently fermenting brew on my screen (1.013). Beats sneaking samples for refractometer readings (but licking the computer screen doesn't give the same effect as drinking the samples).

I initially thought that, but it does say it's resolution is 0.5-0.6C (1.0F). Seeing "16.7" for hours on end does give the impression it's stuck. It's just unfortunate that "Celsius" is a direct conversion of "Fahrenheit". I've "calibrated" mine so that it rounds to the nearest 0.5C. Perhaps the makers will fix this in software soon?

There is quite a long thread on the joys of using a Tilt Hydrometer on the Jims Beer Kit forum here:-

I recognise that. Ah, … I appear to be responsible for the OP! Cheers!
