Hi all, Just started off the Pilsner in the fermenter. What puzzled me is it said to use just 300g of sugar in the fermenter. I have always used 2lb of sugar for all the brews i have made. Have i missed something.
Also when the brew is ready for bottling it says to use 8g of sugar per litre but what does this work out in pint bottles.

Thanks

i've never brewed it but i would follow the instructions anyhows

i would just batch prime at the rate of 8g per litre, so i'm guessing you have 23 litres, so when primary fermentation has completed your looking at 184g (heat sugar in a pot of boiling water to a syrup, allow to cool, add to the whole FV, gently stir, leave for 1/2 hour, bottle)

Thanks for that tip nickmcmechan. I would have tried to spoon the sugar individually into the bottles as that's what i've always don DOH.

yep, i was doing the bottles individually a couple of months ago and then i discovered batch priming!

i brewed coopers australian pilsner last year, i used half a tsp per pint, way too much! it should have been 1/4 tsp per pint to prime, best lager kit i know, a mate of mine who was in the forces spent many years in germany and he could not believe it was a homebrew kit, as good as most of the pilsners he drank over there, his words not mine, it was left for at least 2 months in the bottle before trying, will def do this again.

the instructions for this kit say use 300g sugar and 500 spray malt...
On my instructions it only says 300g of sugar. Nothing about 500 spray malt

odd... are you refering to the booklet or the instructions on the tin? I'm reading this off the tin.

With the beer ktis that contain only 1 tin, then the usual, from what i know, is to add about 1kg of sugar/spray malt in total.

I've just looked at the tin I have in my garage. On both the tin and the instructions it says 300g sugar and 500g lsm. When I bought mine the hbs advised to use brew enhancer 2 which is 1kg.

Right it says Recommended Ingredients. coopers wort concentrate.Yeast sachet 500g coopers dry light malt. [other recommended dry malt extracts may be used ] & 300g dextrose/sugar.

I'm not a big home brew hobbyist I'm just the buy the can and add the water and sugar type. So should i have bought some light dry malt? I've never heard of buying extra malt to add to a kit.

Regards.

Yeah quite often some dried spray malt is recommended for a better brew - If the instructions recommend it then I'd do it.

Thanks. Ive never heard of it as i have posted earlier.
I e-mailed coopers in Aus and got a quick reply they said to use 300g of sugar/dextrose and 500g of light dry malt. However they said if i have just used the sugar my beer will still be fine :D

CIB - spray malt is rather expensive but good, why not try next time with a brew enhancer (Muntons and Coopers do this and is readily available from home brew stores or on-line) and is half the price, although you are compromising as Brew enhancer is a mixture of dextrose and malt, you get what you pay for.

Just cracked a couple of bottles and i must say even though i did not add the malt it is very good so God knows what it would have been like if i did add the malt.
