.... Symphonic Rock.
Morten Veland really shouldn't be allowed anywhere near a microphone, but it's his band and he'll growl at one occasionally if he wants to.
I was given an i-Tunes voucher card for Christmas, to the value of about two albums, so I went and downloaded a couple I had wanted for a while, one pop and one folk-rock. Then I went to see if another personal favourite had released anything new. They hadn't, but I made the mistake of starting clicking on the âlisteners also bought....â links, found something else I was seriously impressed by and bought that, clicked on another link and was blown away, so I had to buy a fourth. Had that been on vinyl I would have worn the grooves out by now, so I've now had to go back and download another album from that 4th band.
So, take one long haired, bearded Norwegian heavy metal guitarist (he might look part troll but he's actually a rather good writer/composer/arranger and talented multi-instrumentalist). Add some more guitars, some big drums and a thumping bass line. Now add a piano, some strings and occasional woodwinds. Recruit a choir (experience of Latin an advantage). Add the self-harmonising voices of a Spanish âEl Factor Xâ 4th round reject, and what do you get?
I think they make a pretty good noise, see what you think, here are Sirenia with âPath to decayâ from the album âThe 13th Floorâ and âThe end of it allâ from the album âThe Enigma of Lifeâ. I think there are better tracks on both albums but they aren't on YouTube.
If you like those, you could also try some Finnish operatic metal from Nightwish - âSleeping Sunâ or âI wish I had an angelâ
Or you could go Dutch: Within Temptation - âThe Howlingâ and âWhat have you done now?â, both from the album âThe Heart of Everythingâ.
I assume that everyone already knows Evanescence.
I would be obliged if anyone can point me to anything else in a similar vein.
