Hi guys,

Will any yeast do when brewing beer? I have a can left over from when I made bread, can I use them?

Also, if I add finings to my beer, is it drinkable right away? I understand it may take about a week to work.

Cheers

Best to use beer yeast, it works much better.

The yeast defines the flavour of your beer, so unless you want to drink a pint of HOVIS I'd go for some beer yeast, it's pretty cheap.

Finings will only clear the beer, it doesn't condition it. For beer to condition it needs time.

At least 4 weeks for any beer to condition, longer for some, the only exception I know is Wheat Beer which can be drunk young.

I never use finings as by the time the beer is ready to drink it has usually cleared anyway, if it hasn't cloudiness won't do you any harm.

Thanks for your reply.

Yeah the finings are to just clear it. Doesn't matter really.

Thanks!
