I just peered down the rabbit hole of the Portman group and who they are and what their panel members are and have been! It's late so I pulled back from the edge of the abyss!
Hmmmm....... the CEO John Timothy used to previously work for Tesco! Another one used to work in marketing for Heineken. Another one is currently the CEO of a north London hospital trust, and given her bonkersly massive salary and alleged huge associated workload I don't know how she manages to morally justify the time and pay of a second job, albeit part time.
Anyway..... Running back through the published(on the website) decisions on complaints, there's actually not a whole lot of them. I wonder if the majority of their work is advising producers? As for the complaints, a number of the recent ones are from the Zenith Global group, as part of "An audit" on behalf of the Portman group with regard to their guidelines. That one is the concerning one in my head, that a drinks marketing company can provide complaints whilst actively being paid by other drinks companies.

I think given a few weekends of wandering around supermarkets, and some time sitting down in front of my PC with a solid supply of homebrew..... I could easily increase the "Independent complaints panel" workload by a factor of maybe 30-50 times? I note also that there is no wine on there at all? Its generally all Beer and Spirits. I can rectify that one very easily.
