The hard shoulder - dangerous, unforgiving & it doesn’t discriminate. Please please DO NOT sit & wait in your car on a motorway hard shoulder. You wouldn’t survive impacts such as this!

In that line of reasoning it's unadvisable to cross the road as a pedestrian when the light is green.

The green light is there to tell you its safe to cross but you still need to look before you do the emergency services tell you not to sit in the car if you break down because of these types of accident.

Absolutely true, you may be flattened by a cyclist. We have far too many Cyclists Unable to Notice Traffic Signals on our streets today.

Probably better looking out for cyclists on the pavement than the road, seeing as that's where half of the buggers seem to ride. And no, the acronym didn't go over my head!

As a regular cyclist can I point out that (statistically) more people were killed by cars* before breakfast this morning than were killed by cyclists in a year. And that is without apportioning blame (just the total number of deaths resulting from cyclist/pedestrian collisions).

*which is always an interesting choice of language in the press, we seem completely incapable of blaming drivers in this country, you never hear of a bike running a red light its always a cyclist though. In know why it's done, journalists don't like to associate the reader with the culprits, its why the IRA and unionists were responsible for the troubles not Catholics and protestants. Yet we refer to the current problems as "Islamic" rather than anything else.

isnt it in the highway code that If you break down and need to use the hard shoulder, Exit the vehicle and sit up the bank behind any possible impact. Its foolish to expect no other drivers attention to wander and drift slightly out of lane as they approach you.

With undertaking on motorways increasing so much it's more and more dangerous on the hard shoulder. I do the North circular,M11 and M25 every day and I see more and more drivers flooring it in left hand lanes to undertake the other lanes. It feels like people's main driving experience has come from video games. That coupled with people being distracted by their phones I'd stay well away from my car on the hard shoulder.

I think a lot of undertaking is caused by the frustration of middle lane hogging which i find one of the most infuriating habits we see on our motorways the police are supposed to be clamping down on it but with so few police on the roads and so many inconsiderate drivers its not going to stop any time soon.

You certainly wouldn't want to be run over by myquls machine...I heard it's made of cast iron salvaged from a victorian diving bell he found whilst mud larking on the banks of the Thames...
So the smell should give his arrival away for miles? :laugh8:

And the rumble of cold iron on the tarmacadam, screaming townsfolk, the gasps of wonder and the maniacle cackle of the great hipster himself propelling his archaic velocepede across the Capital.
