Pike and bream I would like to catch, carp I am sick of catching, and they wreck the keep nets and landing nets with their spines.

How is the EU the biggest loser?
Apart from the lost revenue, I think now that it has opened the door for any other disgruntled members. Even though GB has better bargaining power than most of all other states (fishing, and the amount of trade) it would be unfair to raise the bar for any other leavers.

I’ll be interested to see analysis of the deal.

I suspect it won’t go far enough for some, and I think we’re always going to be limited in our sovereignty/law making capacity by having the EU and no one else on our doorstep. In a trade deal you will always have to follow the rules set by the much bigger party if you want access to their markets.

Why is everything about fish all of a sudden?

The value of fish landed by UK fleets annually is about £1bn. The quota changes now agreed will be worth about £150m extra annually... in 2026.

Total exports to the EU of all goods and services is around £300bn.

Fishing quotas are utterly trivial.

Can i suggest we leave this thread alone over the Christmas period, have a little think about all the familys who have lost loved one's this terrible year for whom Christmas will be a sad time, Thank youathumb..
I hope you're not personally touched by these sad times, Rod. Best wishes to you and a merry Christmas.
No, I don't think we should leave the issues raised by the OP alone. What's done is done and we should all get back to clashing beer mugs together and swilling the draught of unity once more. But hardship is going to come to some or even many over this, at least, until things settle down, and that won't be any time soon. So let's not bury our heads in the sand, let's not "Don't panic and carry on" let's look to the living, especially those who are struggling.
Let's not turn a blind eye to the real and present danger that the executive of our elected government is not on our side unless it immediately profits them to pretend to be so. Let's look out for the genuinely poor, the dispossessed, the newly unemployed with mortgage, family and debts, the lonely, the bereaved, the asylum seekers and victims of the hatred deliberately provoked by our "hostile environment". Now we've put Brexit to bed, let's start showing a bit of solidarity for our fellow humans and work to undo at least this part of the damage our current bunch is perpetuating.
(And it's not simply because they are Tories and I'm not of that persuasion. There have been some decent Tories just as there are some decent Liverpool supporters).

No An i am not touched by covid yet, and i agree it's time to move on merry Christmas to you and family acheers.

I bet you can't even tell me what we actually gain from this **** show. Or even what we have had in the past.

I have no need to prove to the likes of you (the bitter remainers) what i like or dislike about the deal you need to get over this we are out and no amount of bitching is going to change that, no one knows how this will turn out so let's see how it goes now we have a deal, it's like you want it to fail so you can wear your "I told you so T-Shirt"

Happy Christmas.

One thing that I have never seen mentioned in the whole Brexit debate and chat is those families that are made up of a Brit and another EU national, married or not or with kids etc.

Ireland and UK agreements aside, all of a sudden those families are now constrained to either live in the UK or in their chosen EU country and need to have settled there before time is up in a few days.

Previously the family could chose to live where ever they liked but let's just say it was a Brit and a French national. Now, if they are living here in the UK and decide they want to move to France on Jan 1st, there is no automatic right for the Brit to live in France. I'm sure there is a process to go through to get residency and all that, and it would likely be the same for all EU countries, but it's bound to be a right faff with visas and a load of red tape.

I'm sure this affects thousands and thousands of families but, as I say, I have never heard anything about it.

There is also potentially the passport control thing. Traveling as a family to an EU country on holiday for example, does the Brit need to stand in a different passport line whilst the others go for the EU national line. It doesn't sound right to me.
