I think its 7 days then if you are still unwell 14.
My worries are over then chippy :laugh8:. I fear this may stretch to end of year before we can see light, just hope I'm being pessimistic.

Stay at home if you have coronavirus symptoms

Stay at home for 7 days if you have either:
  • a high temperature – you feel hot to touch on your chest or back
  • a new, continuous cough – this means you've started coughing repeatedly
Do not go to a GP surgery, pharmacy or hospital.

You do not need to contact 111 to tell them you're staying at home.

Testing for coronavirus is not needed if you're staying at home.

Read our advice about staying at home.

Use the NHS 111 online coronavirus service if:
  • you feel you cannot cope with your symptoms at home
  • your condition gets worse
  • your symptoms do not get better after 7 days
Use the 111 coronavirus service
Only call 111 if you cannot get help online.

A couple of quotes below -

If I get sick with COVID-19, how long until I will feel better?
It depends on how sick you get. Those with mild cases appear to recover within one to two weeks. With severe cases, recovery can take six weeks or more. According to the most recent estimates, about 1% of infected persons will succumb to the disease.

Recovery times can vary widely, especially if other issues such as pneumonia develop as a result of the virus. But a Harvard Medical School report said those with mild symptoms can expect to recover in a matter of days, while severe cases can take weeks.

Not meaning to come across as unsympathetic, but those who are self-employed should have income protection. You have absolutely no rights and safety nets. Not having it would be akin to not having car insurance.

I work part time casual. Usually about 32 hours a week. Last week 40 hours.
I work for a pathology company. Today I have to visit our Covid 19 testing centre twice.
To pick up specimens & the used hazmat suits.
No sick pay for me if I'm off. I don't intend to get it though.
Luckily I'm in a financial position where I can not worry too much about two weeks lost wages.

In the Netherlands the schools are closed. Teachers however are expected to come in, and teach.
Using the abysmal school network.

Orders are orders.

Beginning of June last year in turkey I developed pneumonia with fever and fluid on my lungs, heart palpations, couldn't sleep at all until exhausted and was scared at times over lack of oxygen, fatigue aching limbs, it knocked me for six, even when I got home I had loss of breath going upstairs this lasted a month before I was back to normal. I never went to doctors there but got antibiotics that did nothing and when I came home was given different that did nothing but I was never tested. All I can say is I've never experienced anything like it. Are they sure this asnt been around longer because the symptoms fit perfectly. I'm 51 and wouldn't want that again, truly unusual.

Having a new hip operation three weeks ago I've felt weak and feeble ever since; and ditto SWMBO who had an anti-pneumonia *** just before I went into hospital.

So, is our feebleness due to old age? Is it a common cold? The flu? Coronavirus? or just "There's a lot of it about!"?

We just don't know; but one thing is certain and that's that there will be no trips out for the foreseeable future, especially to a Doctor's Surgery full of sick people!

Our French friends have painted a depressing picture of France at the moment and at 77 years old, we have decided to just hunker down here in the UK for the summer and try and avoid catching anything really nasty. With this in mind, today we cancelled our April holidays that comprised:
  • Eurotunnel to France.
  • Two Hotels (Boulogne and Caen).
  • An apartment for two weeks in ****ichet.
  • Three Flights from Edinburgh to Nantes and return. (For great-granddaughter, her Mum and "other half".)
We started booking this holiday nearly a year ago in April 2019. The apartment is "non-refundable" but for the rest I will have to rely on "Vouchers" for future travel plans; and even then I suspect that it will cost us over £1,000 by the time the dust settles.

Ah well, we can only hope that we have done things properly and think "It's only money!" aheadbutt aheadbutt when the black-cloud of despondency starts to descend!

Now I'm off to have a beer! In the meantime my advice is "Stay Fit!" athumb.. athumb..

PS

The Ministry of Medicine in France has released a statement telling everyone that Anti-Inflammatory painkillers (e.g. Ibuprofen, Nurofen etc) makes Coronavirus WORSE and reckons that Paracetamol is much better! Enjoy!

How many members work but wouldn't get full sick pay for the two weeks self isolating.

I think sick pay varies wildly from workplace to workplace. I get full pay for being off sick, my wife gets none for minor illness and only statuary if she's signed off. On the other hand, she can work from home easily, I can not at all.

It could be worse @Dutto ~ you could be like me - due to get married in July! Honeymoon bookded in Spain (Jet2), etc etc. All looking a bit ropey now!

Sorry to hear about your wedding.
But like you say @Dutto. It could be far worse. I'll probably have to put my retirement off a couple of years now.
What with the stock market going down. That will affect my pension too.

I recon it's been here for months. I was speaking to an old mate yesterday I hadn't seen for a few years. Said he was ill before Christmas, unable to sleep lying down completely flat as he had a "drowning" sensation in his throat. Went to the hospital and was told he had a chest infection, which sounds more like pneumonia...I was like this for a few days a couple of months back but it went as soon as it came with no other effects....

Well I'm afraid when I quote for work, should I put all these extras on as a %. I wouldn't get a job, it's hard enough covering my van expenses and tax with people working for cash, I can't afford a pension either so I must work till I can't. If you want any work done I'd be glad to add all those expenses onto your quote however I know you would choose a cheaper option. This is the reality, how many times even by bankers amongst others do I get, how much for cash or getting ridiculously under cut from the people who do foreigners or Barry's retired down the road and works for nothing.
It's not easy for everyone.

A lot of people are mentioning the Xmas 'flu'. My wife had it, nearly 3 weeks, most of which was spent in bed. Never seen her so ill and she is a for 30 something. She mentioned she felt like she was dying and when she finally felt better she developed a sinus infection. Some days she felt better and then went back to square one again.

Looks like schools will close for Easter and not open until September. My wife is self employed with sickness protection which is all well and good but she won't be protected to stay home to look after the kids.

I fully understand where you're coming from. I generally use tradies I know do a good job, so not necessarily cheap.
For instance a handyman I use costs me $60 an hour. I get paid less than $30. I've always presumed the difference to be him paying insurance, pension, van etc.

Sickness covered isn't that much if you shop around. The wife as a policy that covers various liabilities that she needs and sickness for just over £11 A month, pays out 80% of her earnings.

Fair play Pete, if only everyone had your points of view and yes I have customers who understand but never enough so sometimes must sub contract.
Anyway I get by but can see this could be a difficult time ahead for many, every job has a knock on effect to many others.
I'm sure we will manage and overcome this.
