I've been messing about for a few months now building this, trying that, and now I thoght it was about time to get my arse into gear and build my mashtun.

To the brim my tun holds nine gallons. I bought it from Ebay for fourteen quid plus p&p.

I did build a strainer before but had too much deadspace ( 7 pints ). After a few modifications I have come up with this.

ALL COPPER CUT UP READY FOR THE SLITS

I BOUGHT THIS THE OTHER DAY FROM THE RANGE. ITS A SHINY SHINY CAMPING MAT. I'M USING THIS TO INSULATE THE OUTSIDE OF THE TUN EVEN FURTHER BEFORE I DO MY TEMPERATURE HOLDING TESTS.

From my original deadspace loss of seven pints I am now down to just three which is a lot better. The final pictures to follow on my mashtun build with be the shiny shiny covering and the false bottom. I should get this done this week  .

Cheers Neil

Great build, and a great name.

Nor flies I hope

Nice tun!!

I am sure that if you were to put a downturn on the tap that is lower than the tun the syphon effect would pull out nearly all of the wort leaving almost no dead space.

Thanks to all for the comments and encouragement, if it wasn't for your great advice it wouldn't have happened.

I did try it with a downpipe but still had three pints left over. Maybe when I solder the joints up it will improve the suction.

Camel Toe labels to follow, so get the kleenex ready !!.

Thanks Guys  :thumb:

The camel toe brewery I bet there's a queue for a look inside!

& I can't wait for the beer names.

1st one has to be "Nuns Crutch" a dry brew with a lingering bitterness.

A pain in the arse to cover, but I got there. The camping mat was really easy to cut and shape with a serrated kitchen knife.

Cheap spray adhesive used to stick the foam down.

Mashtun holding temperatures to follow.

Lovely looking Job there but It looks like it could be a real PITA to clean.
I would be very wary of moulds and nasties if you get wort in between the tun and matting, should hold mash temp very well though.

Thanks for the comments UP. While covering the tun I did try and make sure that all areas were covered as you can see

Wondering now if there is anything else I can do to prevent nasties getting in
