Time for another update now that we are into a new year.

Still no first brew yet. I have the usual back problems, so I have to take every day as it comes. In the meantime I have been looking on Freecycle and the usual auction sites to find suitable items for my brewery. A while ago I picked up this kitchen extraction unit from a local farmer.

It comes with all the usual extras and once turned on it sucks air like a thai ladyboy !!!. A few days ago I picked up all the ducting, wall plate and all the bits and bobs required to fit it in. This lot was on fleabay locally and cost a tenner, saving me even more money.

Now to the best bit.

Forum member Scorrie started a topic on building a fermentation cupboard which got me thinking about the same. Just by chance a member of Freecycle/Freegle offered a larder fridge which occasionally leaked from the bottom. I applied for it and a few hours later received a reply asking me to pick it up if I still wanted it.

Last night a friend and I jumped in the car and drove a few miles up the road to meet her. Her husband opened the garage and I was confronted with this

JACKPOT !!!

This is huge. Its a Tefcold 1380 commercial fridge which is nearly 7 foot tall.

Just by chance, this fridge was one of three that I used in a previous place of employment about three years ago. The couple that owned it got it in an auction from the same place when it closed down last year. I do remember that it was fitted with a new cooling fan and gubbins a couple of years ago at quite a hefty price. When I worked at this place there was a pipe at the back of the fridge which followed on into a plastic container to catch water when it drained. Either the pipe has fallen off or it has filled up with gunk and blocked it up causing it to fill up with water and back up into the fridge. This is very easily sorted in less than a couple of minutes

All I have to do now is convert it to a fermenting fridge the same way forum members have by using the tube heaters and STC1000.

Happy days

That shed looks brilliant, I want one. I can't wait to see the beer labels for camel toe, should be interesting.

Thanks Swazi, it took a while to get there but we did it.

Just before typing this I visited a friend a few miles away on the coast for a coffee and catch up. I mentioned that I was desperately after some old kitchen base units and worktop for the brewing shed. I was that desperate I nearly went into B & Q and spent forty quid on a new worktop until he said a friend was fitting a new kitchen.

Five minutes later the car was full of everything that I wanted for free, so I know what I'm doing this evening.

Nice... I've seen that sort of stuff being skipped pretty often round here. Every time someone redoes their kitchen or bathroom, the skip fills up with rubble and all the old fittings.

My son and I paid another visit last night for a couple more wall cupboards. Starting off with two was ok until he said it would look nice with a few more for storage going around the side of the shed. I kept this quiet from SWMBO until this morning and broke it to her gently blaming my him for the extra.

Now I'm off to sort this mess out !!!

Thanks Bob.

Yesterday I started to fit out the kitchen in the brewing shed. As usual I managed to get hold of all the cupboards and worktop for free. Sorry about the close up pictures, I have got that much rubbish in the shed at the moment, its really hard to get a decent view.

I decided to keep the old homemade workbench and use it as a base for my kitchen

First cupboard now up, its starting to take shape

Second one up but Houston we have a problem.

I knew that fitting the extraction unit in the middle was going to be a very tight fit but I was short off 6mm. I tried putting it in at an angle but no joy. I ended up bending over and hammering the edges of the extraction unit to make it work.

Two pieces of 2 x 1 are used as supports for the extraction and now everything is a perfect fit.

Whenever I am out and about, I am always on the lookout for either firewood for the house or things I can use in the brewery.

I picked up the comode a while ago and I thought it would be ideal to hold my mashtun over the boiler.

I'm going to leave the seat on in case the bathroom is in use. A bucket at the bottom and it will be ready to use :D

I have a few more cupboards to go over the other side and the hob needs fitting in. More pictures to follow.

I used to drink Wards in Sheffield, that camode would have come in very handy
