Hi
I'm planning to do a coopers mexican cerveza, just enquiring if its best to use normal sugar or dextrose after topping up to 40 litres.
Thanks

Firstly, welcome aboard bendo,I've got one of these in the cupboard to do. I'll be using 1kg Youngs Beer Enhancer (£3.75 Tesco Sale, due very soon, stock up on this) 100g of honey and a hop tea, should be a shade under 6%. It's not a true lager but a light fizzy ale and very nice. terrym has done an excellent guide to kit brewing and if you follow it you won't go too far wrong, here it is:

Anything else, just ask.

Do you mean 23 litres? Which is rougly 40 pints. As Larry F says get a brew enhancer. You don't add it after topping up either.

I've only been brewing for 12 months, but I never have never used sugar. I've used the brew enhancers but the next beer I'm starting hopefully today
will be a Coopers English Bitter with 1kg of Light Dry Malt.

afaik dextrose , brew enhancer or sucrose is all the same thing, the brew enhancer may contain a nominal quantity of malt extract but hardley enough to ensure a full body.

the only benefit of using the simpler sugars is they may ferment out a little quicker as they are pre cracked, sucrose being a complex chain of 1 x glucose/dextrose and 1 x fructose molicules..

if your after a fuller body then invest in LME or DME both available from your local hbs.

happy brewing..
