I have brought a 5 litre bottle of water can someone tell how much Starsan I should put in 5litre water? Thanks

It tells you on the bottle but I would use the high concentration which would be 12.5ml per 5 l of water.

Why on earth are you buying bottle water to add the Starsan too though? Have I missed something? ;)

To get the right ph level. I just use my tap water and seems to do the job

Because we have hard water besides it only cost a £1:whistle:So I will have a good stock of it as well

I don't use it but if i remember correctly if you use tap water it instantly goes cloudy and if using bottled it doesn't?

If your kettles get full of chalky gunk when you use tap water but you can make a decent cup of tea by filling the kettle with "value" bottled water at 18p for 2L, it's pretty safe bet that the bottled water is going to maintain the required acid levels better when mixing StarSan.

If diluted as per the instructions, there is no need to rinse.
I'm about to go down this route because it will mean that I can clean my bottles a few days in advance and simply sanitise them immediately prior to use without going through a tedious sterilization procedure.
Best price I can find at the moment is Dorset Homebrew - and I rarely struggle to cobble together an order big enough for free delivery.

Never used an auto syphon but get a "little bottler" . Excellent. Stops automatically and when you syphon into bottles stop it right at the top. When you then remove the bottler from the bottle the displacement leaves just the right amount of free space at the top of the bottle before corking etc.

Link here or you can also get it on its own without the tap and just connect to a tube.

I've got this, it's brilliant, but mine doesnt fit tightly enough onto the end of syphon tube. Keeps dropping off making a mess so I've gone back to bottling using the tap that came.with the syphon tube. Tighter fit.

To rinse would be counter productive.
I tip a bit out a 2litre tesco value (essientails?) And inject 3ml into it. Whola u have enough to last u the first part of brewing to a few weeks later for bottling. Afterwhich I'll normally dispose.
I'll also add accordingly to a spray bottle. This is used periodically with pots and kettles, table tos, general brew equipment if I feel it requires a zap . It's for a sound piece of mind really.

You can get tubing with slightly different diameter :)

might have a look and keep two on the go in that case , as the one I've got fits everything from my rigid tube, to my tap.

the little bottler i have actually came with a tap, but it's one you'd fit to a drilled FV which I won't be doing

I didn't want to drill my FV so cut the tube off the tap at the point shown, i push it into the end of my syphon tube once i get the flow started.

The bucket clip below works on a FV or DJ and helps keep everything steady.

I have just started to use my Starscan to clean my Demijohn is this OK or should I rinse It

There are many references to the word "clean" in this thread. Star San is a sanitiser and you can only santise clean equipment.

I know what you mean I am worried about the bubbles in the Jar do wait until they disappear or do i rinse them out with tap water. I must admit I shaked the Demijohn so the Star San reached every part of the demijohn was that the right thing to do?
