I think everyone should start learning about their kegs somewhere in the middle of a field. :laugh8:

Like eating a melon, where the only safe place to do it is in a shower cubicle with the door closed! athumb..

Trying this for the first time.

It's the Kernel Export India Porter recipe from the Craftbrew book.

I used citra to hop and dry hop. I'm really pleased with the results. Love the grapefruit flavours mixing with dark chocolate on the palate.

Just started to consume this now it has been conditioning for a few weeks.

It is my attempt at McEwans 80/-. I am determined to find out what has caused a very slight sourness to it. It may be something in the mash or the yeast used. It's good but could be better.

Ou of interest, have you ever had the original to compare against?
When I moved to edinburgh 30 years ago it was practically ubiquitous in the bars here(on hand pump most of the time), now its almost vanished off the face of the earth.

Hi Prog. Not got an original here - in any form - but I'm from Edinburgh and used to drink it then - maybe I'm the reason it vanished lol - I'll have to go home again and find it.

One of the last few bottles of my Sorachi Saison brewed at the start of the summer. Super happy with this one & easily my clearest beer yet. Yeast was CML Lille Saison but would be interested in trying the same recipe with Belle Saison or Wyeast French Saison.

Oh... I didn't realise it was so low abv, looking forward to trying this when I'm home as I'd thought about brewing a low abv saison a while back. Hybrid style, Scottish 60/- with a saison yeast.

NZ Pale Ale - a 50/50 partial mash based on a Coopers OS lager can. Gladfield's Ale and Supernova malts along with Taiheke and Southern Cross hops. acheers.

Nothing. Missus found it a good idea to dedicate 1800 to 2400 to opera.

Aaaagh! They should make medals for anyone who has to sit through an opera!

BTW, not realising what an honour it was to be offered the chance, I once turned down a seat at La Scala in Milan ...

... and showed my employer of the time what a real peasant he had hired!

Right, for the first time yesterday evening i tried 2 of my first beers i bottled, hoping to give them a "proper" taste test other than the sample bottles i first tried.

The first one i opened which was bottled last week of July was the English Ale (Extract Kit) around 6%abv.

This Ale is very nice it seems. The 8 weeks in the bottle has done it justice. Very clear with a nice smooth taste of "caramel" or "honey", i am not sure which yet.

The second one was the Bad Cat (Extract Kit), turning out at 7.2% if my measurements were correct.

Again, this has benefited from 6 to 7 weeks in the bottle. Cleared very nicely.
This one is definitely loopy juice. Very strong and you know it. The taste is very aromatic, hoppy, i guess with the American hops of course.
Very nice beer i must say but a couple and i will be looking for the karaoke machine...

Tonight, i will brave the B&M IPA...........

They look two cracking beers, well done. It's a great feeling when it all goes well

As i said i would open the IPA. Anyway, here it is.

This is a B&M IPA, brewed the way the instructions stated. The only extra addition was some yeast nutrient as after 3 or 4 days in the FV, there was a sulphurous smell.

The smell went away. Again i feel it was due to the fermentation temperature being in excess of 24c.

Slightly hazy, but i can live with this as it adds to it's appeal.

It isn't Green King IPA, this is just a pub glass i acquired.... cough cough.

Here, after 10 to 15 mins.

Anyway, last Saturday afternoon i ended up on a drinking session with mates from work.
Went in a few pubs, to which there have been a couple of recent additions, one being an Atom Brewery Pub.

Below is an IPA from there... Cloudy to the extent it looks like orange juice and around £4.40 a pint.

Now i am not sure i am an IPA fan overall. I think it is very very bitter, nearly sour in taste.
After bottling my B&M, i tried a bottle after 2 weeks and to be quite honest it was undrinkable... It was foul.
Now, after 5 weeks in the bottle, i must say there is very little difference in taste to the Commercial IPA i was drinking last weekend.
Comparing the B&M to the Atom, it is very pleasing to know in my opinion and tastes, they are very similar and now seems very drinkable.
At 5.5%abv and £6 a go, i think this is probably the most value for money brew i have opened so far.

Thanks for reading.
