I'm in the process of setting up fermentrack using A RPI and wemos do modules on my home network which I also want to view/control remotely. My worry is that someone could hack into my system and mess up my brews/ access my other devices. What would be the best route to secure my local and remote connections?

The reason for the my concerns are that I was reading an article on the vulnerabilities of iot devices today namely CCTV machines and Alexa devices which are easy to hack which in turn gets the hackers access to your other connected devices on your local network where they could steal email addresses, bank details and so on.

There was a massive flaw in the CCTV industry where the chip and firmware allowed attacks performed and a lot of people were left without recordings. Sounds trivial but as the machines have a chip in that allows firmware to be installed they uploaded script into the machines and used them as netbots. For spamming, bit coin mining and Ddos attacks.

Don't have Alexa as she's a nosy one.Put your phone down have a conversation about say windows or conservatories and watch the ads pop up on your news feed.
I honestly don't see the point especially for home brewer's to be spending on WiFi enabled devices so they can monitor temperature from their phone should they be in their office or living room.
It's a hobby and one to be enjoyed and if that means getting up of off ones backside to take a look and show an interest so be it.
I have a fermentation fridge and an inkbird 308 and it keeps my temp fine and it's good to check on it every now and again.
Forget about putting it on the network and the less you have the less chance of someone hacking it.

Here we go
