Hi,New to the forum planning on a return to brewing, used to brew wine quite well 20+ years ago,had a go at beers but was always disappointed.Used to be half bottle of beer with the other half full of sediment, have things moved on?

Hi Bob,
Things have moved on with beer kits, you can still buy the bottom tier get what you pay for, spend a bit more on two can kits and some on here say they're quite good... :thumb:
One brew I can recommend is "Turbo Cider", apple juice and yeast, makes a pleasant drink!!

Not brewed from a kit for about 20 years

Welcome to the forum.

Even the “bottom tier” beer kits are vastly superior to anything I can recall brewing in the late 70s /early 80s.

Don't just plan, get the gear out of the attic and do it

Things have moved on a bit,yes I gave up in the early 80's, what is a two tin kit then? I like darker ales & porters generally as does Mrs Bobs

I can't really advise on kits as when I resumed winemaking & brewing I only did 5 kits before I crossed over to the dark side. However, I did an Edme stout and a couple of Cooper's dark ales and they seemed most acceptable for one can kits + sugar and/or spraymalt.

With the premium kits you get two cans of hopped malt extract, and they don't require extra sugar.

Malted barley gives your beer body and flavour, sugar adds nothing except alcohol.

Thnks all for the welcome, most of my old kit was made homeless by Mrs Bob in one of her many clearing the deck operations only found a hydrometer and a capping machine, so it's a Woodfords kit ordered to satrt us off and see how we get on,there will probably be loads of dafty questions appearing on here in the near future :)
