I am.expecting my coopers Aussie.lager starter kit to arrive on Wednesday, assuming I get it all into the big barrel(I learned that's called the fv.) by Saturday, when can I expect to be able.to drink it.....

so I'm kinda looking for a box to bottle timeframe, again please bear in mind I'm talking about billy basic brewing skills.here!!!

Hi chips.
welcome.
as a general guideline i usually leave my beer in the FV for two weeks. Then bottle. Ill keep the bottles at room temp for a week then put into the much cooler garage for another two weeks.
After this i have a couple of sneaky bottles for quality control reasons ;)
There usually at a decent drinking standard by then and dont last much longer.
However if not ill give em another 2-3 weeks and then the'll defo be ready for drinking.

So basicslly crack one open every now and then and you can make up your mind to weather its time to have another.
Thats the best bit about homebrewing. :)

I've just done the Aussie lager, took about 6 weeks to come good in the bottles, had a bit of a twang before that but not undrinkable. As it's a lager, give it a good 2 weeks in the warm after bottling to gas up. And if you want to make an even better lager, chuck 20g of Saaz or Hallertau hops in after day 5 of the ferment and fish them out just prior to bottling.

I made the Coopers Aussie lager as an emergency brew and wasn't expecting much (it's not really a lager as it uses an ale yeast), but it's turned out a cracker. :thumb:

thanks for the input fellas....... If my maths are correct, I have just missed the Christmas deadline...... But its gonna be a ace new year ;) 🍺🍺🍺

let you know how I get on

cheers

beers will mature in the bottle, stash a few to one side for supping 3 months down the road for a comparison, you may end up sitting on all your brews a little longer ;)

If your kit includes a pressure barrel still bottle lagers, the PB's dont hold the pressure you need to fully condition a lager.

so I gets myself 25litres of bottled Scottish mineral water just starts un packing the kit ready to sanitize...... Daughter (9yr old) sez can I help you make your Diddybeer..... (read Coopers DIY beer) ......looks like my brew is now delayed until Sunday .....aaarrrggghhh the suspense its killing me!!!!!!!

That's sounds very much like my modus operandi, bar two weeks in bottles in the warm before transferring to cold. I think my batches might last a bit longer too, as try not to drink on school nights (...mostly successful, bar the odd experiment).

Patience is a virtue when brewing!

so that it!!!!! Its underway! Just over an hour from box to fermenter...... And an OG of 1042 ..... If my calculations are correct that should end up somewhere around the 4.7%? Anyone confirm this????

1 tin of coopers Australian
1 box of coopers brew enhancer 1
250g caster sugar
23l Scottish water

now if I can just sit on my hands long enough!!!!!!!

It ends up, what it ends up in terms of final gravity and ABV! You will need to take a final reading to do your calc.

Coopers might suggest a final gravity, but it might be different with your 250g of caster sugar (...and possibly your brew enhancer, if the instructions said Brewers sugar).

The brew enhancer and caster sugar might make your beer better/stronger though.

update....... I took the kreusen ring out on Friday, the foam had collapsed and things were looking good, its been at a.constant indicated 22.5 degrees..... Dropped a sample in the tube gravity 1014 (that's after 4 days) but it was very heady tried pumping the hydrometer up and down for 5 mins still very gassy....... Had a taste and I unless its gonna mellow I may not like the final brew, its nit acidic or off but it was very sweet....... think my castor sugar may have broken my beer

It's sweet because the yeast hasn't had time to convert the sugar into alcohol yet:)

After only 4 days it's not time to worry just yet. Like was mentioned above, leave it 2 weeks in the FV and then take another reading, it'll be lower. If you have another sneaky taste then I bet the sweetness will be gone:)

Patience is the key!

drew off a sample.tonight, checked with the hydrometer its down to 1010 from 1040..... The sweetness has all but gone, waiting for my bottle tree to arrive and then i think its bottling time
