Hi all. Im just finishing off my vodka kit/ alcotec . I have
Accumalated a selection of vodka bottles from friends/family. Do i need to sterilise each one or. Will the original alcohol contents have done it for me?
Thanks in advance keith

Commercial vodka is normally sold at an ABV of 37.5% and that is sufficiently high an ABV to kill off any nasties.

However, the problem with secondhand bottles is that you never quite know what someone has used them for after they were emptied; which is why so many kids get killed every year when their parents put bleach, weedkiller, turps etc into soft-drinks bottles!

The Alcotec Kit produces at best a brew with an ABV of 21%. This should be okay but if it is any lower then it could still get infected and turn to vinegar if the bottles aren't properly sanitised.

Personally, I would wash them out very thoroughly, check that there are no residual smells and then sanitise them before adding the brew.
