Reading the obituaries, Jimmy Carter was an impressive President (and post-president) in many respects. He was ahead of the game on environmental issues, promoted human rights and negotiated significant peace deals. And home brew :-). A shame he was beaten by Reagan in 1980. RIP.

A lot of people are saying the same today on the radio today, apparently he was a decent bloke and a good politician but became president at a very bad time the main problem being the state of the Americans economy.

The US had just lost the Vietnam war and confidence was at a low, and the war had cost them billions and 55,000 lives.

Always a lot of respect for someone like this who had a rough time as a President, could easily have retired to Florida and lived the life of a king.

Instead, he got involved in loads of humanitarian causes. Absolute top fella.

Used to regularly listen to him and enjoy Radio 2 Drivetime and sounds of the 70s. I knew his background and he was always the naughty kid in the class, but settled down later on.

I am a leeds United fan but how could you not be impressed by this man. I remember when he refused to celebrate the goal that sent Man United down to the then second division you could see the angst in his face as he turned away and just walked back.

I had the pleasure of watching Denis play and what a player he was. A sad day and now the 3 greats of United have all gone. RIP the King.

Sad to hear about Denis Law. I have an old copy of Charles Buchan's Football Monthly where Denis featured as one of the members of the one million pound football team. Yes... £1M for the whole team.
