Reading the obituaries, Jimmy Carter was an impressive President (and post-president) in many respects. He was ahead of the game on environmental issues, promoted human rights and negotiated significant peace deals. And home brew :-). A shame he was beaten by Reagan in 1980. RIP.

A lot of people are saying the same today on the radio today, apparently he was a decent bloke and a good politician but became president at a very bad time the main problem being the state of the Americans economy.

The US had just lost the Vietnam war and confidence was at a low, and the war had cost them billions and 55,000 lives.

Always a lot of respect for someone like this who had a rough time as a President, could easily have retired to Florida and lived the life of a king.

Instead, he got involved in loads of humanitarian causes. Absolute top fella.
