Extract kit cannot be really compare with all grain brewing. It like comparing cake mix with baked from scratch cake.

Anyway, Mangrove Jack kits always came out pretty good for me. Cheap coopers lager was drinkable, but I wouldn't say good.
But, all grain brews were always better then any kit.
 
why buy a lager kit and them pimp it to taste like an ale?

Was a Christmas present the other year kelp, modification was the only option.
Interestingly I have had a glass of Stella from a beer engine with a small keg of stella that the guy said comes direct from Belgium, tasted so much better than the local pub version, which is now unfortunately closed down and boarded up, possibly being turned into apartments..😭😔
 
When I was a wayward youth, I remember some of my mates would order just a pint of lager, even when there was a choice. No-one ever ordered a pint of beer, they would look at the hand pumps or taps and order the one they liked.

Thanks Cheyne,will take a look later.Just bottled hammer of thor lager which I've been told is a quality brew, although for the better more of a beer than a lager apperantly.
 
Best kits I made last year were Festival German Weiss, this was indistinguishable from a commercial wheat beer. Festival Belgian Dubbel, again if I tasted this blind I'd believe I was drinking a proper Belgian beer. Final one I really enjoyed was the Bulldog Strawberry Pale, might not be to everyone's taste though, depends if you like fruit flavoured beers or not.

Aside from that always found the Woodforde's kits (Wherry etc.) to be pretty reliable but not that unusual e.g. on a par with a well kept bitter from a pub.
 
Thanks Graz,I brewed a brewferm Wit bier just before Christmas and that was a really tasty beer with nice alcohol content.The hammer of thor I just bottled will hopefully be as good as the reviews I've read.
 
I brewed the wilko chocmeister stout last year and that is a good kit if you can leave it mature for 6 months or so. It says you can drink after a few weeks but I wouldn't bother. Let it mature.
 
I'll need to channel my inner patience for that one biggestal.The hammer of Thor is a good threw month all in and thats going to be tough.🥺
 
Festival IPA is great , I've made several batches all absolutely great, also tried their IRS and their german weiss, also tried a Woodfords Wherry which was excellent.
 
Nice one Stu,thought about Wherry after reading some reviews.Has anyone tried Russian imperial stout?
 
The Youngs American IPA is hard to beat, but remember 'it ain't what you brew it's the way that you brew it '(sorry fun boy three !)

I've done some basic kits such as Bulldog IPA that pimped with DME, a dry hop then fermented and cold crashed in a fridge, turn out fantastic.
 
Festival Belgian Dubbel might be on the list to brew about September for Christmas.Landlord soonds a good beer Bedale.
 
Prefect preperation prevents p*ss poor performance,so yep all the recommendation s are meaninless if I don't brew up right.Im thinking about Youngs Americans ipa as a simmer beer Tanglefoot.
