Hi Guys
Haven't been on for a while.I am brewing a India Pale Ale 3kg and I got it to about 1.045 SG and it's been stuck on 1.018 for 10 days or so.I added a little sugar last week and gave it a bit of a stir but a week later,today,it is still on 1.015..This will only give me a 3.9% thereabouts which for me is a waste of good Ale..

I am going to add it to my keg later but just wondered how much sugar I need to add to my keg? I have 20 liters of it in my FV.
Would 2 teaspoons per liter be ok? so 40 teaspoons ?

Is this for priming? 2tsp is WAY too much. Also with it being stuck at 1.015 that would suggest that the fermentation itself has stalled.

I think the going rate for a keg is around 80g total.

I have done the fermenting and now going into priming yes. I didn't add any sugar to the Ale as it stated not to but I added some 2 weeks later to try to get it more down to 1.10 as it was stuck on 1.020 for a long time but this morning it was 1.015 so it has gone down a bit.The ale looks not so good as there seems to be bacteria inside the FV but not sure.It doesn't smell bad though. The sooner I put it into my keg the better I think..

A lot of my brews finish at around 1015 but if it is a kit then it may stuck, but if you have had a constant reading for 3 days then it will most likely be done. I would prime at about 4-5g per L so about 80-100g.

As long as it tastes OK it should be OK
 
Take a read through The "OMG I don't want to screw up my first brew" how to.

What you've done is start a perfectly decent IPA (3kg kits are good) which has fermented down to close-ish to a sensible FG. Then increased the unfermented sugars by adding some (which would increase the ABV but as a consequence decrease the flavour and body of the beer).

If I were you I'd go through the steps here and see if you can unstick it a bit.

Then once it stabilises at a lower gravity keg it with 80-90g sugar.

Yeah I think I added about 80g to my last keg brew,think that was a Headcracker ..

Ok..I am going to add 80g to my keg now..

cheers for that..I will read it now..
 
ok..Have added 80g of castor sugar with a bit of boiling water to dissolve the sugar and now it is wrapped in a blanket but temps are only 14/16c ..I know it should be a bit warmer of 18c to 20c but will take longer ..

Yes I gave it a good old airing/stir when the water went in.
I may have to move it somewhere warmer for a week before putting it in a cool place
