The rest of you guys' bottles look fantastic. Think I'd better knock up some sort of label before I send my bottle

I know I never participated and I feel inferior because I just use a sharpie on the bottle cap

The bottles and beers look great well done everyone, will def be interested if we do this again..

:thumb: good job everyone!

This kind of thing is definitely something I'd be up for again.

Trying to work out if there is a way of group buying a load of that packaging and dividing it out, but its been a long week and my brain is kaput!

liking this and sorry I missed it - will keep my eye out for the next one.

Cracked mine tonight:-

Really enjoyed it, thanks. I'm not very good at describing beer but;
I found it initially nicely florally/fruity hop forward, but as I got further down the pint noticed the maltiness coming through more, but not as much as I'd expected for the colour. Nicely balanced and quaffable, and I'd gladly drink another.

I also think it would be great to swap beers more often, and really enjoy sampling other homebrews. I'd defo be interested in a group purchase of the packaging if it worked out cheaper.

Me too, couldn't hold out any longer

I got........... oranges :thumb:

On the nose, soon as I popped the cap and then taste too. One of my favourite stouts is 'March of the Penguins' which has a slight orange hint to it. I guess I need to get myself some Apollo hops!

Excellent beer imho, refreshing and tasty, wouldn't last long if I made that one, that's for sure! Savoured every drop :drink:

The group buy forum is back again after a short break - http://www.thehomebrewforum.co.uk/forumdisplay.php?f=67

Yeah, I was trying to figure out if a few of us could get a discount by buying say 30 pieces between 5 of us or something, but they'd have to be sent on again to each individual. I might be able to do that through work actually, using the courier service we use. It's an option if anyone is interested.

I would be interested in any future swaps and group buying for the packaging. I like the old school chalk/sharpie labels as well to be honest.

I use the same label and just change the name and the colour. Print a few off and ten colour photocopy at stapes for a few quid.

The feedback on my beer definitely put a smile on my face. The Brown Ale I received was excellent and I think I will defy have a try at that recipe or similar.

Decided to start early today and cracked open of Abbey Ale from the Linhay Brewery.

I have promised to give honest feedback so here goes.

What a great beer. Good carbonation and poured great with a lovely head.
Initial smell I was getting raisins with a hint of banana. A definite abbey ale taste with raisin, malt and subtle alcohol coming through. The hops started to come through near then end of the glass.
I was impressed that you have captured the abbey ale taste but at a lower abv than you normally associate with this style.

I would be well happy if I had bought this from a shop. :thumb::thumb:

Great beer chrissyr63 :)

Just posted mine, sorry it took so long. First chance to get to a post office today. It seems to have carbed up well but head retention is poor so I think I'll add a bit of torrified wheat next time. Hope you enjoy it, the elderflower really does come through.

May crack yours open this evening. I'm looking forward to comparing it with my brown.:thumb:

Head retention on mine might not be impressive either as I'm not that bothered about this on beer so use washing up liquid on all my brewing kit. (althought this seems to have a side benefit of not needing a blow off tube for yeasts with massive krausens)

I wonder if what you do would tame a fermentis abbey or be-256 krausen then :hmm:

It might. Both Wyeast 1469 and the shepard neame strain normally have huge krausens like but I normally only get about 3" of krausen. This would only be ok if you dont mind little to no head retention on your beer in the glass

Finally cracked and opened the Apollo brown. I'm not one for really citrusy American hops so I'll admit to being a tad disappointed when I took a sniff from the bottle. But I took the plunge and poured it into my favourite glass. Nice and clear with a good head and a big whaft of citrus which I found disconcerting in a dark beer.

However, the taste was really well balanced, so refreshing and not just a cirtus bomb. It's really made me think again about using American hops. I'd gladly drink many more of these.

Great idea this swapping business. Thanks:thumb:

Hi and thanks for the review. I must say I think I have a extra high tolerance to hop aromas as I was thinking I hadn't added enough :D.

The taste side turned out really well and will definitely be a recipe I repeat. I have tried version 3 with some extra Zeus hops and so far it is not as good as the version I sent out.
