I am having problems getting the gas right on my lager.

I have tried setting the regulator from 5 right through to about 20 but still cannot get it right.

Is my set up correct? Am I missing something? I have the standard gas to regulator to coupler to cooler to pump.

Any ideas would be much appreciated! I am wasting a lot of lager trying to get this right!

Cheers

The keg is a standard Fosters 11 gallon.

There is too much foam and no matter how much I regulate it doesnt seem to change that much.

Cheers :

right im too new at this and having never played with the equipment am really only morale support. but could it be that theirs too much protein in the lager(presumably homemade) creating v high heads and foam, this would have been fixed through fining or filtering(if done)
hope u guys figure it out, weeping to think of all the booze being wasted and best luck :)

I've never done it and hopefully someone who does will come along. What size beer line are you using at those pressures? IIRC you need to have a certain length of 3/8th beer line, then stepping down to a certain length of 3/16th beer line to prevent fobbing, i's nothing to do with your pressures :hmm:

Also your lines need to be clean - imperfections (dirt) in the lines can cause the gas to come out of solution causing a lot of foam.
If I carbonate my cornies too highly, even if I remove almost all pressure when serving, I get a lot of foam and it takes an age to pour a pint (or you end up wasting loads as you say).

Thanks for the replies guys, but i still havent found a solution!

My lines are 3/8th all the way up to the font.

They are brand new lines so hopefully they should be clean.

It is the standard Fosters font.

Thanks for the photos. When you pour, are you cracking the tap wide open or just gently pressing it? - Try cracking it wide open and see what happens :hmm:

Let us know how you get on :thumb:

If you get stuck for some beer line, Norm stocks it. Have a look in the links section for his email address (see links button in header)

Just to let you know, I changed the size of pipes as suggested and it seems to have done the trick!

I also lagged all the pipes together including the cooler pipes and now all is running great! The lager is just how it should be!!!

Thanks for the tips!
