It would be hard to call it a beer now,ive had 3 bottles sitting in my hut since i got back from Iona four months ago.
I used to love it as well, not sure whats happened!! 😁

WOW this is now moving into the realms of chemistry degree level for me lol.

You wait till you start faffing around with adjusting your water or yeast harvesting/propagation. That's when the fun starts :-D

Thanks to ALL for your help with this.

I've been out this morning and bought the Coopers Stout (£14) and the beer kit enhancer (munton's) (£6 for 1KG) from Wilkos (cost £20 in total, I could have found it cheaper online but I want to crack on today if possible and it's still worth the money).

I'm going to go very basic to start (just as I did with my wines) and build from there as I get to grips with the basics.

I'm not expecting anything special here and even if it doesn't work out it's worth it for the experience.

I've never had a poor result from a Coopers Stout and I have done them many different ways. Great choice!

My favourite kit-only beer is a Coopers Stout, a Wilko Stout and 1kg of table sugar, brewed to 27L. Easy, was cheap in the 25% off sale (at £18) and ready to drink after 5-6 weeks.

wilko stout and 1kg of table sugar brewed to 27L? Bet that came out pretty low ABV%?

I am proposing adding the Coopers Stout kit to this, of course, guys, sorry if this was not clear :-D.

Despite my partial mashing credentials, and AG pretentions, I put one of these on as recently as 18 July and it is just solid. Brewed with US Safale 05, approx ABV 5.5%.

So you did a two can/toucan with a coopers stout and a wilko stout? Haven't come across anyone doing that before.

I started the kit yesterday. Lovely and simple and stress-free. I enjoyed it a lot to be honest. I used 1KG of Munton's Beer Kit Enhancer instead of sugar.

24 hours later the airlock blowout - looked like this. Despite brewing short at 21L instead of 23L it was rather expected as I had been warned on this very forum this stout was a really active fermenter.

Bucket cleaned up, airlock removed and a fresh clean blow out tube inserted and bubbling away nicely. Good lively kit this one!

Bottled my first Cooper's Stout today and I can honestly say it is perfectly drinkable already. I'll let you know in a month or two how it comes out.

I had it in the FV for three weeks and the ABV is bang on 5% with a nice taste already. Happy camper so far :)

"Wonderful!!!!"
My Cooper's stout has been conditioning in the bottle for just over a month now. Just tried my first pint and it was PERFECT! I need never buy another stout again. Thick black in colour but not too thick in mouth feel, this little beauty beats every stout I have ever tasted and it's only a month old. Splendid. It even has a cracking head on it.

I am delighted, after only tasting homebrewed beer in the mid 1980's I never thought it could be this good. I am so pleased I tried it myself.

Thanks to all for the suggestions of this kit. I love it.

Brilliant, Fat Dad, this really is a kit that stands on its own as a good drink, and ready quite quickly.

May your excretum always be shallow.:D

Stupid question but is stout like mild?? my dad likes mild and was thinking I might do a kit for him..Pint looks good by the way.
