I started a 40-pint batch of Brewmaker 80/- Scottish Heavy in a 25 litre FV on 13 Nov. Visible activity started the next day with surface frothing visible through the bin lid. There has been no evidence of bubbling through the airlock at any stage, but the lid was domed by internal pressure up until a couple of days ago. The temperature has remained relatively constant at 20-22C.
We're now at Day 9. I've checked the SG over the past 2 days and it's steady at 1.010 so far, but I'm a bit concerned about all the particulate that is lying on the surface and appears suspended throughout the brew.
There is still the very odd, small bubble rising to the surface, but nothing to write home about.
Will the particulate eventually fall to the bottom of the FV or is there anything I need to do? It's not immediately obvious in the photo below as the beer hasn't cleared, but the particulate can plainly be seen. Oh, and the white stuff on the surface isn't scum, just very thin froth reflecting the camera flash!
I'm fairly new to this game, so any advice (or reassurance!) would be very welcome.
