I have a nearly full 25kg of marris otter in the shed that has been there for getting on for 2 years. It has been cool, dark and dry all this time. It looks ok but do you rekon it's ok to use?

precrushed-nope will be a goner most likely,

uncrushed probably worth a bash, dont know if i would rely on it to do a smash with but a stout or somthing without anything needing much conversion should be ok- try a mini mash to see if its worth doing a proper brew with

My last 25kg bag of crushed Pale Malt has a manufacture date of 01/02/12 and that is still fine. I also have half a bag of the same which I am using now which has a manufacture date of 01/04/11 no problem with reaching SG,s or FG,s. I must be lucky then, although it is kept sealed in the dark indoors.

I'd say throw it, 2 years is a long time outside, even under cover and dry!! :hmm:
Give it the birds or spread it around where wild animals would be in't woods or similar...

I reckon it may well be OK. I spoke to a guy last Novmeber that used a bag of grain a few years old to brew an IPA and it won an award. Might as well mash it and then check gravity/taste, you never know...

I have a bag that is over 5 YO. I will eventually do a mini mash and try it out. If it fails then it is bird food.

I have stored crushed malt in a sealed container in the cool and dark for just over two years and when used it never failed to give a good conversion.

I just brewed at the weekend using crushed malt that was about 4 years old, stored in the garage. It tasted okay after mashing and the gravity was exactly what i was hoping for so fairly confident the beer will be okay when it is finished.
