Ok newbie questions!

48 bottles all sanitised ready to be primed. I thought its best to sanitise them regardless of if they are new or not.

Yeah, the companies that sell them often say that they don't need to be sanitised for the first brew but I would rather be safe than sorry. :thumb:

If I remember rightly, my Coopers PET bottles were in a cardboard box with no lids on or plastic wrap. So I would definitely sanitise them.

A good tip I got here is to not use paper labels on the bottles but to use a chalk pen to write on them. I got one for £3 in a local stationery shop. Writing "Wherry 17/12/12" 43 times was not as hard work as I was expecting.

Keep a record of what you brew and give each one a brew number (Gyle) with the date of brewing, then just put that number on each cap, just make sure you choose caps that are a contrast to the "ink". Caps are cheaper by the thousand.

I think you're serious. But where from? They're only £1/50 in Wilko which seems cheap to me.

There isn't a lot in it admittedly 1.85p vs 2p each, it was really the joke I was going for and you liked that

They are a bitch to get off! You can use printer paper and pritstic, they fall off in hot water.

I think you were wise to sterilise your bottles even though they were new. For the sake of half an hour or so it's peace of mind and you know you've given your brew the best chance to turn out just right. :thumb:

Absolutely agree, it doesn't take that long, why worry about it just do it...

They'll probably get wet & damaged when you sterilise them.

My latest batch has been marked with a liquid chalk pen, but I've just bought a dirt-cheap laser printer so will probably design some labels in illustrator for the next lot, then print them out.

I think I need a bottle tree then :shock:

I'm still new to all this.

I have designed a label but could do with some self-adhesive A4 Paper I can cut myself. Anyone bought these? If so, where from?

I too got a colour laser printer so it will look quite good. Beer might not taste as good as it looks though lol

On my first brew. i had a syphon tube supplied with the kit for bottling, but when i read on here about the little bottler, i went and bought one and fitted it to the end of the syphon tube and it worked a treat. I had to use an unused plastic nozzle of a silicon tube, cut to fit the little bottler at one end and the syphon tube at the other. I have since fitted a tap to the fv. It would be worth doing, as i had absolutely no mess.
