Prob just need to be patient but...... On Tues this week I started a 23ltr cellar7 red wine kit. Followed the instructions to the letter and put it away in my cellar. The temp slightly less than recommended (18 degrees as opposed to 20-25 recommended).
On Wed eve I started another 23 ltr kit (Magnum Rose) and a DJ of another Red Wine (Wine buddy). All three batches are together on a large tray in my cellar. The first has done nothing (been about 90hrs now) and is showing 18 degrees on the thermometer (sticky one on the side of the FV. The other two started about 24 hrs later are bubbling away fine and temp is showing 22 degrees despite being right next to the other. Different brands of kits and different instructions.. The two that are doing well required sugar the cellar7 did not and they also required using boiling water (topping up with cold) where the cellar7 instructed luke warm water....
Sorry, bit long winded but trying to give as much info as poss.. but the bottom line I guess.... Is the cellar7 knackered or can it still be salvaged....

Thanks
Ian

If the water you added was only warm then you topped it with cold the temperature would have been very low when you added the yeast , then you put it into a cold cellar, I am no expert on kits but it may be too cold for fermentation to start.
You could stand it in some warm but not hot water which may kick start it if this is the case.
As I said I am no expert but its worth a try, it might benefit from a good shake if you can pick it up.

The problem kit used luke warm water (was about 22 degrees when made up) But I think makes sense what you say, could well just need a bit of heat to get it going. Nowt to lose I'll try sit the FV in some warm water...

Thanks
Ian

What's it in?

Have you looked or listened for any signs of activity?

If there's any froth on top, or you put your ear to the fermenter and can hear it fizzing, then it's working fine but the gas is escaping some other way. If it's in a bucket then lids rarely seal properly and airlocks might not bubble.

It's in a bucket. Can't really hear anything coz it's near my boiler and the other batches are bubbling away lively right beside it. Doesn't appear to be doing anything, slight foam on top but that was there from the start when I mixed it up. I've sat it inside a big tub with warm water to see if that'll kick start it. Guess it's fingers crossed and hope for the best now....

Its best not to keep taking the lid off to look inside at this stage as there will be little CO2 in there to protect it from the air and other nasties, you are best off using the ear to the side of the bucket method.

Yup, absolutely agree. Not had the lid off since it was made. Will just give it a day or two now and see how it goes... Thanks for the help and advice peeps... Much appreciated.
