I fitted a 1/2” bsp s/s tap to my Cygnet with a 1/2”s/s running nipple and washers inside and out sealed with food-safe silicone and secured by nut on the inside.

Many thanks @Wynne - took me a while to work up the courage to Google "running nipple" but I'm glad I did, which doesn't happen often.

The parallel nipple I got from pipe dream fittings, I believe.

Cheers for the eBay links @jjsh that's helpful. The prices may not be any better than Screwfix but I do have more faith in the accuracy of the descriptions, even if there's a bewildering array of options on the page at the end of that third link. Let me see if I can work out what I need before I hit you up with more n00b questions.

Don't underestimate how long a parallel nipple you will need; a decent washer each side of the urn wall, plus seal, all adds up, and you want a decent amount of thread into the ball valve itself. Looking at the Pipe Dream invoice, I got;

Parallel Nipple (Custom Lengths) Stainless Steel - 1/2" X 50mm

I just ordered the washer and silicone seal, and I reckon that there's enough thread on my valve to accommodate two of the former and one of the latter, plus the nut. The Cygnet's standard tap only has a seal on the outside and a thread of comparable length, so I'm hoping I'll be OK. Thanks again for the links!

Hi muppix, All you need is a 15mm compression ball valve, and 2 x 1/2" brass flange nuts. Got them from Toolstation. I'm not using the compression fitting on the valve, so remove the olives, and nuts off the valve. The brass 1/2" flange nuts screw straight onto the valve. You have to remove the nut head off the one of the nuts (so its like a big washer) this fits on the outside of the boiler, then you simply wrap some heavy PTFE tape onto the valve thread push it through the tap hole, put the other flange nut onto the valve, and tighten it up. You dont even need a washer because the flange nuts are a perfect fit. I have a lathe, so removing the nut head was a 2 minute job. I suppose you could use a Hacksaw, and a file. Hope this is helpful. If you post me the bits i'll do it for you, for the price of postage. Good luck
Hi BridgeBrew

I think I’m going to replace my tap as well. Could you give the Toolstation product codes for the valve & nuts, please? Is there anything else I’ll need to get the same setup as your photo?

Just waiting for someone to post a picture of chemistry equipment that you see in the 50's Ealing comedies.
And I bet most of you even remember the sound effect that went with it.

Hi Andy K. The Toolstation stock numbers are 90735 for the flange nuts you'll need 2 of them 65p each. The stock number for the 15mm ball valve is 14624. The brass 1/2 hose bard was from B&Q sorry i have no number for that, and i had to turn it down slightly to seat on the 15mm valve, think it cost £1.72. You'll also need some heavy duty PTFE tape, it's the stuff on the yellow roll available at Toolstation, or Screwfix. Good luck. :)
