Hi all, my first brew (Coopers APA with brew enhancer 2) is just about finished ( sg 1012 from og 1042) - when I smelt and tasted the bit from the testing jar (as you do!) it smelt and tasted quite yeasty. It was only started Sunday evening, but its been quite warm in the house (22ish) so I'm guessing 5 days isn't too outlandish.

It looked ok, and the yeast foam has disappeared down. I'm just being first-brew paranoid - is this normal?

If the SG stays the same tomorrow, I'm going to batch prime it and bottle it probably Sunday. Does this yeasty smell go down with the maturation time when in the bottle?

Cheers, Ian (FatboySlimfast).

hi , i would leave it for around 10 to 14 days (total) even if its finished to allow the yeast to clean up the beer . But try to leave the lid on so there is a layer of co2 on top of the beer to protect it . This will help improve the flavour :thumb:

Ah, ok - so an extra week won't be a problem. Would it be better moved to somewhere a little cooler? My garage seems to be around 18deg rather than 22 inside.

I've got a lid with airlock, so that shouldn't be a problem keeping the CO2 layer.
