New Hops (new to me, at least)

Just got hold of 30g each of two hops I hadn't tried before: Solero and Lotus from Hopsteiner. 30g is ideal for a 12 litre trial. A nice "bitter" base with 85% pale, 10% caramalt and 5% crystal, bittered to 35 IBU with magnum, then -10, -5 and flameout additions of the target hop. Neutral yeast-probably US-05.
Just opened the Solero and it Smells like Citra. Will report as things develop.

I hadn't intended this to be a personal thread. Anyone willing to report on the any of the multiplicity of new hops that are coming out, please do it. Even hops that are not new, but it's the first time you've used them.
Just been looking at Mr Malt's collection, which includes the likes of Elixir, HBC472, HBC522, Smaragd, Lemondrop, Pacifica, Styrian Kolibri, Talus and many more unknowns. Not ordering any more for the moment as it requires a separate brew for each. If anyone manages to source Tangerine Dream, though, then I'd love to know from where.

I have beers listed as containing Solero hops and the blurb stated that 'Yes the do taste like ice lollies.'

I have used Pacifica in a Pseudo Lager from memory it was like a typical German noble hop with a little more fruitiness but nothing near as fruity as American/NZ hops.
I think I put it in the correct type of beer for it IMO

The 2012 newly approved hop variety Polaris, from Hüll, has been classified as “Flavour Hops” due to its characteristic aroma and taste. Polaris, with its fruity and refreshing hint of “Glacier Mints” effect, is very convincing.

It's actually a quite nice subtle cooling menthol freshness on the finish rather than obvious minty taste, in my experience of using it and drinking commercial beers that used it.

I'd normally go to a record store for tangerine dream but failing that I've not been impressed with mandarina bavaria. Amarillo I like esp. with Galaxy. I have lemon drop in the fridge, can wait to try them.

The NZ site that @MmmBeer linked us too uses it frequently in their home-grown recipes. It seems to be intensely tangerine, unlike Mandarina Bavaria, which, as you say is intensely disappointing. I dropped them a line to see if they could supply, but they haven't been able to get the hop into Europe as they'd need to show that there isn't a European hop that would do the same job. In short, it was too much hassle and they can't be arsed.
Much prefer the earlier Tangerine Dream to their later offerings.

I did a beer with Lemondrop in December last year and added some marmalade in a 25L brew I called "Oranges and Lemons", yeast was Nottingham:

Maris Otter 4.2kg
Carapils 277g
Marmalade 750g (We holiday frequently in Bowness on Windermere and a homemake Marmalade kit can be bought from "Lakeland" on the many rainy afternoons that the weather brings us).

Admiral 13g @FW
Lemondrop 30g @ 15m or so and 30g for 5m - rest as a Hop Tea in the secondary FV.

For some reason this was slow to clear and I still have over half left, even after guzzling down 2L yesterday to KO our 4 day weekend.
The Orange and Lemon thing is noticeable, but less than prominent, for the hopheads, but it does add to a refreshing sort of a beer.
So, I would not suggest Lemondrop as anything much different to the sort of use I put it to.

I think David Heath did a Vid featuring Lemondrop and some other trending hop in a Golden Ale sort of a beer, a little while back (i.e. this century).

I have 100g of solero waiting to be used. Ive read mango notes and a mango beer is on my list, which I'm tempted to combine but also trying not to, to really sample the solero hops.

I've just recently sampled @Dads_Ale lemondrop pale ale, i think he should leave his review here, if he wants to of course.

I used mystic hops recently but the beer suffered other problems, so cant give a fair review.

Hopsteiner 09326 pale is due to be bottled soon, so hopefully i can review that soon.

Is cascade the parent of most new hops?

Just putting in an order for some Belgian stuff and came across a hop called African Queen, from South Africa. Reviews look good so ordered a 50g sample which will be enough to knock out a stove-top batch with Magnum doing the bittering. Has anybody come across this one? One description (Yakima Valley) claims there's a bit of chilli in the flavour profile! might make a good curry beer.
